STELLA ZURENDA
Stella Zurenda, 94, formerly of Forty Fort and West Wyoming, passed away peacefully Sunday
afternoon at Manorcare Health Services, Kingston.
Born in Poland, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Monika Stefanowicz Balun. She
moved to Ashley with her family as an infant. She was raised in Ashley and was educated in
Ashley schools.
Mrs. Zurenda was an excellent seamstress and interior designer. She worked for many years
for an interior decorating shop in Kingston. Her drapery designs and workmanship graced
many prestigious homes throughout the Wyoming Valley.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville. She was also a 60-year member of
the Polish Union and its Madame Curie Society. She enjoyed their meetings and playing
pinochle. She was an avid reader and friend of the Hoyt Library, Kingston. She also took
great satisfaction and pride in her gardening.
A cancer survivor, Stella became interested in natural healing and vitamin therapy long
before the mainstream made it popular. She was so knowledgeable before her time that even
doctors called her for her opinion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. Zurenda, in 1992; sister, Leona
Karney; brother, Frank Balun.
Surviving are her beloved daughter, Evelyn Hagen and her husband, Bob, West Wyoming, with
whom she resided before her illness; grandchildren, Jeffrey Hagen, Harrisburg; Jennifer
Hagen-Hudock, Kingston; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Abigail and Adam Hudock and Shane,
Ryan and Sara Hagen; brothers and sisters, Al Balun, Swoyersville; Irene Madersky, Joseph
Balun and Agnes Duvall, all of New Jersey; numerous nieces and nephews, who will remember
her generosity and knowledge.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral on Thursday at 9 from
Wroblewski Funeral Home Inc., 1442 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with a Mass of Christian
Burial at 9:30 in Holy Trinity Church, 116 Hughes St., Swoyersville, with her pastor, the
Rev. Richard J. Cirba, officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hanover
Township. Friends may call, Wednesday, 5 to 8:30 p.m.
