Would appreciate knowing if anyone is helped by this information.
Actually, I am seeking the McCoys that connected to this family.

At the Lane County Pioneer Museum in Eugene, Oregon there is an original
manuscript written by Solomon Zumwalt in 1880, when he was 73 years
old. He was the son of Adam (b 1755). The manuscript was reprinted in
"The Missouri Historical Review" (no issue given, as my information
comes from "Ties that Bind" by Marjorie Burnett Hyatt ) with all the
original spelling. Solomon confirms that Adam and Maria (Rodes) Zumwalt
were Presbyterians, that Adam was a distiller, and a personal
acquaintance of Black Hawk. He describes battles in which Adam fought
against hostile Indians. The manuscript is six typed pages, too lengthy
to quote here in its entirety. Here is part of what Soloman wrote
regarding his service and the American Revolution:
"The nuse cam America had declared hur indapendanc and hoo wood not fite
for liberta. So Adam Zumwalt was on hand. He volunterd and went into
tha servic. He served in the arma est of the alagona (allegheny)
mountain five years and a half. He was down South a part of his time and
difrent places. He has told the riter of this.He was marchd to difrent
pints (points) Lived on have rashing (half rations) and porly clothes
that it was the hardist time of all his life.He seemed to have no good
feling for Kin (g) Gorg nor the tores."
Andrew Zumwalt was born 1716 in Prussia, first married to Mary----,who
was the mother of his first six children. As far as we know, none of
the early Texas Settlers descended from these first six children.
Andrew's second wife was Ann Regina from Switzerland. They first lived
in Pa, then in Va, where Andrew died . These are the children are:
CHRISTOPHER b 1750 in Va, d 1819, mar Mary E. Shever, served in American
Revolution ; JACOB b 1752 Va, , died 1820 MO, served in American
Revolution., mar Quetti Miller, one of their daughters was Mary Ann
"Polly" b 1800 Mo, died 1887 at Hochheim,Texas, mar David Burkett (see
John Rumley Steen notes). ADAM b 1755, d 1834 Mo, served in American
Revolution, mar Maria Rodes (Roth), one of their daughters was Elizabeth
who mar Andrew KENT.
JOHN b 1756 died 1820's, served in American Revolution; mar Elizabeth
Conrad. Two of their sons came to Texas: "Red Adam" b 1788 mar Nancy
Caton, he was a Texas Ranger, and it is believed one of his daughters,
Elizabeth mar Eli Mitchell. Another son, Andrew was born 1817 and
died 1887. Andrew served in Texas Revolution and was a Texas Ranger.
His wife's name unknown to us.....ANDREW,JR b 1758 inVa, died 1863, mar
Mary Balderidge, and three of their children came to Texas: Noah, b
1804, Mo, died 1840, mar Nancy Cochran; Gabriel b 1809 Mo and died
1885 Lavaca Co, Texas, mar Eleanor A. Dowling. Gabriel was a surveyor.
Another son (of Andrew, Jr) was "Black Adam" (a cousin to "Red
Adam"),
born 1785 in Ky, died 1872 Fayette Co, Tx.mar Jane Strain Kent, a sister
to Andrew Kent. They had 13 children.
Andrew, Jr and Mary also had a daughter, Christine, who mar Thomas
Bowen. Black Adam and Jane named one of their sons Thomas Bowen
Zumwalt.(he was born 9 Jan 1820 in Mo)....and last child of Andrew
Zumwalt b 1716, was CATHERINE...but no information on her.
When the two Adam Zumwalts (cousins) arrived in Texas, it was necessary
to give them nicknames to avoid confusion, thus the "Black Adam" and
"Red Adam".It is interesting to note that Elizabeth Zumwalt Kent had two
sisters who mar two of Andrew Kent's brothers. Several Kents married
Billings, and Thomas Bowen Zumwalt mar a Billings More information on
Thomas Bowen Zumwalt is available in "Ties That Bind" by Marjorie Hyatt.
