Just pointing out two posts on the Zumwalt GenForum and a question for
Paul Zumwalt (below).
Marla Rhoden on April 17 wrote,
"On
familysearch.org someone posted George Zumwalt (b. 1741 in Harrison
Co.,KY) with his father being Andrew Zumwalt whose father was Adam going
back to Germany. There is also listed a Johann Wilhelm Andreas Zumwalt
married to a Anna Catherina Maretha Jacobs. Are these the same Andrew and
Johann? Thanks for any info. Marla"
To which I responded on April 18,
"Marla, there is so much incorrect information on Zumwalts floating
around on the Web that it would be laughable if it weren't so
unfortunate. Some name collectors just keep recycling wrong information
without regard to basic rules of responsible genealogy.
"This George Zumwalt was not born in Harrison Co, KY. He was born 10
October 1741 in York Co, PA. His father was Andreas/Andrew, the
immigrant. His mother was Anna Catharina Margretha Jacobs or Jacobin.
"Andreas/Andrew's father was Adam? I'll bet Jax Zumwalt will get a kick
out of that one. Jax has been the one primarily responsible for tracing
the family's roots in Germany.
"By the way, the spiritual/saint's name 'Johann' was often given to all
or most of the boys in German homes of that time, just as "Anna" was
given to girls. The secular name is the one to go by."

And, since we're discussing George Zumwalt:
Paul, at

you have written the following. Would you please explain why you pass
this off as your own research, rather than citing true sources:

GenForum).
**** land was surveyed 31 March 1772 in Augusta/Rockingham Co, VA 236
acres, south branch of Potomac (presuming he is the one called there
George Somvalt). History of Pendleton Co, VA by Norton shows George and
Mary Zumwalt sold their land there to Peter Meyers in 1789. The next
year, 1790, George is on Bourbon Co, KY tax list, Christian is not shown
and probably was living with his parents in another county. No tax lists
were preserved for Fayette Co, KY until that section became Bourbon Co,
KY in 1787. However, Dr Jillson copied old Land Grants. Virginia 1787
census shows George Zumealt was still in VA at that time; Christian is
shown on Bourbon Co, KY tax list. Bourbon Co, KY 1787 tax list shows
Christopher, Jacob, Adam, Andrew, and Christian; George Zumwalt is not
shown there. Also, Bourbon Co, KY Old Kentucky Land Grants, Fayette Co,
KY, by Dr Jillson, page 241 Kentucky Tax Lists, Book 12, pp 72-3 and Book
2, page 208 shows Christian Zumwalt. George Zumwalt, born ca 1741, was
old enough to have a son Christian age 21 in 1783.
