Looking for any info on Nathaniel Redd born 1/15/1749 in Sootsylvania Co., Va., md.
Barbara Zook 1/23/1771, died 8/5/1824 in Followfield Twp., Washington Co., Pa.. First, I
am trying to determine where he and Barbara got married. I gather he purchased land in
Frederick Co., Va. 5/3/1771 (shortly after his marriage) and sold it 8/3/1773. Does this
mean they married in Frederick Co., Va.? Or, perhaps they moved there shortly after their
marriage.
I first have Nathaniel Redd in Washington Co., Pa. area about 1780 (on petition for new
state). The question is, does anyone know his whereabouts between 1773 and about 1780?
The purpose of all this is to help pinpoint the location of Barbara's father, Peter
Zug/Zook, a Brethren preacher. I have the following for Peter Zook:
His family (Ulrich Zug) settled in Lancaster Co., Pa. after coming to
US in 1727
He was baptised as Brethren at Conestoga Congregation, Lancaster Co., Pa. in 1747
He was on the Potomac at some point
He was in Antrim Twp., now Franklin Co., Pa. 1762-1768
His daughter, Elizabeth, married Dennis Schmidt 11/15/1771 in Manns (Manse?) Twp., Bedford
Co.
He obtained option on land in Millford Twp., Somerset Co., Pa. 1774
He shows up on land records 1783-90 in Millford Twp.
He shows up in German Twp., Fayette Co., Pa. 1790-92
He was in Amwell Twp., Washington Co., Pa. 1794-1802
He died in Greene Co. 1802/3
Notice that there are several gaps in this timeline.
So, if one could pinpoint Nathaniel Redd when he married Barbara Zook it might determine
where Peter Zook was at that time. It appears that all of Peter Zook's children were
in Washington/Fayette Co., Pa. when he was there. Perhaps they migrated togther.
Appreciate any thoughts.
