I was hoping that Harry Zook would answer this thread if he still had
his book available for sale. Since he didn't - perhaps I can offer
lookups in it as I purchased a copy and donated it to my local LDS
library. I would need to know the names of the specific individuals you
are interested in. My line is through Deborah, daughter of Peter Zug, son
of Ulrich and Barbara Bachman Zug, grandson of Hans Zug of Germany.
Deborah married David Miller about 1778 and they were in Kentucky by about
1800. I also own three Brethren History books that I am sure make mention
of early Garber/Gerber families in Pennsylvania. I will try to sift
through them and post what is there in the next day or two. Nadine Holder
Hi Linda and All,
My Descendants of Johannes Gerber d. 1777 Berks Co., PA that is posted
on rootsweb/ancestry is based, with a few exceptions, on a book by
Gingerich and Kreider "Amish and Amish-Mennonite Genealogies" (1968)
which is available in most genealogy libraries or LDS Family History
Centers. I do not own this book and I can't remember if ZUG/ZOOK is
listed separately like my GERBERs are, but if so I would take this
listing as the best starting point. In my latest file I have a
dozen-or-so other GERBER/GARBER families. When completed, the idea is
that most people will be able to find which line a GERBER or GARBER in
their family tree comes from. When looking for ZUG ancestors, perhaps
we are talking about a time period before good records were kept and
cemeteries by now have decayed or otherwise have been destroyed. The
best information on later Mennonites and Amish-Mennonites is
Mennobits:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mennobit/ . I am
going to check to see if I can find info on Linda's line, looking for
ZOOKs that married descendants of my Johannes GERBER..

Doug,
I can track the Zug/Zook line to Indiana. Starts with Ulrich Zug and
Barbara Bachaman. Both Ulrich and Barbara died in Chester Co.. PA.
Ulrich in 1748 and Barbara in 1758.
Tying my line to yours goes this way.
Hans Zug and Barbara Dierstein were the parents of 4 children. One was
Hans Zug and another one was Peter Zug. Hans was the father of your
Christian and Peter was the father of my Ulrich. I see this differs
with your info of Christian being the son of John b. 1684. I could
have some mis info as there were several Zug families and all using
the same names of Ulrich and Christian.
Anyway back to my line. It comes down like this:
Ulrich Zug and Barbara Bachman
Peter Zug and Mary Unknown
Abraham Zuck and Catherine Unknown (Abraham and Catherine were born in
PA and died IN in 1819)
David Zuck and Deborah Unknown was born in PA in 1792 and died in
1842 in IN)
Jonathan Zuck and Elmira Freeman
Mary E. Zuck and William Franklin McVay. (my great
grandparents)
Any info on any of these people that you might like I would be willing
to share.
Linda
