I am trying to locate the Zug ancestors of Anna Margaret (Zug) Good who,
according to her death certificate, was born April 15, 1845, in Cumberland
County, PA, to Jacob and Elizabeth (Culres?) Zug.
I find only two Jacob Zug families on the 1850 Federal Census for PA. One is
listed in Carlisle township of Cumberland County; the other in Walker
township of Juanita County. However, neither has a spouse named
Elizabeth nor a five year old daughter named Anna.
In the event any of the information on Anna's Good line is of interest, I
provide the following:
Anna married Hiram Johns Good somewhere in PA. I find them on the
1880 Federal Census in the Sandy Hill district of Madison township in Perry
County, PA, with a family of five children, Florence, Ira, Carrie, Harry, and
Letticia (?). Another son, Charles was born later that year in, according to
his Social Security application, Kistler, in Perry County.
Hiram and Anna, at some point around 1914/16 (?) moved to New Mexico
to be close to their son, Harry. Hiram died there March 19, 1918 and is
buried in Curry County. His will makes reference to all the children except
Letticia. Carrie died in 1893, having married a Bernheisel with whom she
had two children, Mae and John.
Anna returned to Altoona, PA. to live with her daughter, Florence Crist.
Anna died there October 20, 1929. I have a death certificate for her but have
not attempted to find a newspaper obituary which might say something
more about her parents.
I am a grandson of Harry who married Emma Agnes Hunter in Marshall
County, Kansas, February 16, 1893. They lived in a number of states during
their marriage, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, and possibly New
Mexico. Eight of their children lived to maturity. One, born in 1909 in
Farwell, Texas, is my father, Verlin Howard, who is now living in Olathe,
Kansas. Emma died September 6, 1923, on the family's farm and is buried
in Garfield, Arkansas. Harry died June 22, 1961, and is buried in Council
Grove, Kansas.
Any information that you might have on Anna's Zug line would be
appreciated.
Thank you.
Terry W. Good
