From "Zug/Zuck/Zouck/Zook Genealogy" by Harry D. Zook (Baltimore: Gateway
Press, Inc 1983).
"The ship Francis & Elizabeth, George North, Master, from Rotterdam, but
last from Deal, brought to Philadelphia on 21 September 1742, Christian,
Moritz, and Johannes Zug..." Johannes is proven as a brother in a land deed
where he sold land to "brother Christian." Moritz is carried by researchers
as a brother, probably on the strength of their coming together. I think
somewhere in your emails you consider them sons of Ulrich and Barbara
Bachman Zug but they are not - Ulrich and Barbara having come about 20 years
earlier to Pennsylvania. This bunch is assumed to be lineal descendants of
a Swiss Anabaptist minister Hans Zaug. They settled in an Amish Mennonite
community in Bern Township, Lancaster County. This is now in Berks County.
There are several land applications for them between 1742 and 1758.
Christian Zug died December 17 1787 in E. Whiteland T., Chester County, Pa.
His birthdate is unknown. His first wife was Anna Knoble or Knabble, with
whom he had eight children (I can't write the German character). The second
one is Barbara Zug born Sept 1742, died 1815. She married Michael J.
Beeghly as second wife, his first wife being Barro Inken. The other
children were Anna, Elizabeth, John, Yost, Mary, Jacob and Christian.
Barbara was born about the time of their landing in Philadelphia. She is
proven as a daughter in his will which is in the book. Christian's bible
was sold in his estate sale and has been lost (probably with much valuable
information.) Moritz Zug and wife Maria had seven children: Johannes,
Christian, Henry, Jacob, daughter died in infancy, Abraham and Veronica.
Henry Zug or Zook 11 May 1752-21Feb 1827 married Barbara Kurtz d/o Abraham
Kurtz. He is the father of Barbara Zug born 17 Feb 1781 and died 10 Sept
1830 and married John Garber (Hans and John would be equivalent). Hope this
helps. Nadine

Hi Nadine,
Thanks for your interest. My latest file on rootsweb/ancestry contains
about
35,000 records (after I update it this evening), about half of them
being descendants of Johannes GERBER d. 1777 Berks Co., PA. I think I have
found an early connection between the Amish and Brethren and this connection
involves ZUGs. Barbara ZUG b 1745 and
d. 1812 Brothersvalley, Somerset Co., PA, m Johann Michael BUCHELE
(or
BEEGHLEY) abt 1772. This line can be tracked to the Brethren GARBERs in
Montgomery Co., OH. Was Barbara ZUG d/o Christian ZUG b 1710 Hesse Germany
and d. 1787 Chester Co., PA? Christian ZUG is thought to be buried in the
LAPP family Cem. in the Chester Valley (north of Philadelphia) possibly at
Whiteland or East Whiteland Twp. I sure would like to see the family of
Christian ZUG. I would also like to see the family of Moritz ZUG b 1715,
possibly the brother of Christian. I would appreciate a look-up in Harry's
book. Thanks for your help.

I was hoping that Harry Zook would answer this thread if he still had
his book available for sale. Since he didn't - perhaps I can offer
lookups in it as I purchased a copy and donated it to my local LDS
library. I would need to know the names of the specific individuals you
are interested in. My line is through Deborah, daughter of Peter Zug, son
of Ulrich and Barbara Bachman Zug, grandson of Hans Zug of Germany.
Deborah married David Miller about 1778 and they were in Kentucky by about
1800. I also own three Brethren History books that I am sure make mention
of early Garber/Gerber families in Pennsylvania. I will try to sift
through them and post what is there in the next day or two. Nadine Holder
