Hi All,
One source estimates that the GERBER-FIX Cemetery (now located in Reading) at one time
contained 200 burials. Then in the early 1900's the main part of the cemetery was
destroyed when a railroad right-of-way was built over the top of it. I keep finding more
and more connections between the family of Johannes GERBER d. 1777 Cumru Twp., Berks Co.,
PA and ZUG's from E. Whitefield Twp., Chester Co., PA. Henry ZUG/ZOOK b 1794 who was
s/o Christian ZUG and Magdalena BLANK and his wife Christiana KURTZ (1801 -1874) are
buried at Binkley/Brinkley's Bridge in Berk's county, according to the LDS site.
Wasn't the Lancaster Bridge built over the Schuylkill River in 1831, at the point
where the GERBER-FIX cemetery was located? I am thinking that some of those who were
"lost" at the cemetery included this ZUG family, although there is no way to
tell. If I can get my early ZUGs / TROYERs/ KURTZs etc.straightened out (impossible you
say?) I think I can offer more guesses as to who mi!
ght have
been buried in this cemetery.
