My La Zouche mystery.
John Bysshe Born Circa 1430/1440, Died 1494 in Burstow, Eng.
"JOHN BYSSHE of Burstowe, co. Surrey. 38 Hen. VI. 1459/60. "The
Elder." Will prd 1494 (P.C.C. 15 Vox). Md Joan, dau. and hr of Sir Oliver
La Zouche, Kt."
John Bysshe is my ancestor, proven by wills for each generation. Comber,
Berry and Penfold have all placed the above in their genealogies; Penfolds
work I just checked in Chichester. The arms of the Bysshe family at Worth
Church, carry the ermine of the La Zouche family. And, recently I found that
Sir Philip de la Beche married Lady Joan (inferred from the seal that she
was of the family of de la Zouche) ca. late 1200's, early 1300's.
Some recent information suggest this line but dates seem off:
Eudo Zouch d.1326 = Joan Inge,
[Ivo+ (Eudo) b. 1297 Haryngsworth
(Nthants), d. 24 Apr 1326, Paris Arch/York m.
bur. 27 Apr. 1326 Augustine Friars m. Joan Inge]
Robert Zouch 1300-1371 = Margaret,
Lord Oliver Zouch b. 1311 of Sooth Charford m. ???
John b.1342 = Eleanor.
John b.1385
Sir Oliver Zouch b. 1406 in Sussex m. Isabell
Joan Zouch of Sussex married John Bysshe of Burstow
I have from a collection of sources traced several lines of the La Zouche
family being particular to include their property. It appears that
individuals in the line of Eudes inherit property in Surrey and Sussex in
the same location as property mentioned in the wills of the Bysshe family.
There appears to be a connection, but this has so far been elusive.
Thank you for observations.
