Hi. I saw your post on the Zoeller message board. Your Zoeller is not the same as my
Zoller, but I wanted to take a look and see if I could find anything for you.
I looked on
Ancestry.com and found Phillip Zoeller in Louisville, KY in the 1860 census.
If it's correct, his father is Martin Zoeller, age 45, and his mother is listed as
Coonagoonda Zoeller, age 33. (Don't be alarmed--I am sure it's the phonetic
spelling of the German name Kunigunde. I have a friend whose German mother has the same
name.)
I attached a pdf. verson of the 1860 census.
Then I looked on
ancestry.com to see if anyone had any pertinent family trees that might
have information. That's how I matched up your user names and decided to contact you.
This record is an excellent example of name misspellings in census records. There are also
a lot of factual errors in census records. I would expect that's why Phillip's
parents are listed as having come from different countries. It's possible that on the
last census, he indicated they were born in the US because he wanted didn't want to be
viewed as a son of immigrants.
If you still have your
ancestry.com membership active, I think you will be able to find a
lot more on that site if you keep looking.
Good luck.
Michele Young--great, great, great grand-daughter of a Pittsburgh Zoller.
