Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the list so I thought I'd put my Zobel ancestry that I know of
out there.
My earliest known ancestor was Peter Zobel, b. abt. 1780. He probably
moved into Posen, Prussia sometime after 1791. The church record in Strelno,
Posen is difficult to read but it appears he settled in an area spelled
something like Bankowo, although I can find no town with a similar spelling.
His son, Johann Friedrich Zobel, b. abt. 1808, married Eva Christine
Lindemann (b. abt. 1810) in March 1831 in the Evangelische Kirche
Strzelno/Strelno, Posen, Prussia - the exact date wasn't given in the church record.
It
looks like Johann had been living in a town spelled something like
Krunsthkowo - again, I could find no town with a similar spelling. Eva had been
living in Stodoly (Pol.) or Hochkirch (Ger.).
Their son, Georg Zobel (my great-great-grandfather), was born on 3 Mar.
1833 in Stodoly/Hochkirch, Kreis Strelno and was baptized 10 Mar. 1833 in the
Evangelische Kirche in Strelno. He married Amalie Bechtold on 31 January
1860 in the church in Strelno. Although family member told that she'd been
born on 28 Feb. 1840, she was born on 12 Feb. 1842 in Stodoly to Georg
Bechtold and Christine Wiedemeyer and was baptized on 13 Feb. 1842 in the
church in Strelno.
Georg and Amalie's first two children were baptized in Strelno but their
next child was not. They probably removed to Lopienno, Kreis Wongrowitz,
Posen, Prussia after 1862 since three of their children gave that location as
where they were living immediately prior to their immigration to the U.S.
My great-grandfather was Heinrich/Henry Zobel, b. 28 Feb. 1864 in Posen.
He married Maria/Mary Brandt, b. 12 Jan. 1865 in Posen to Michael Brandt
and Anna Braun. My grandmother was Martha Zobel, b. 15 Sept. 1887 in Posen,
probably in Wyganowo, Kreis Znin, Posen, Prussia since that was the
location they gave as having been living in when they left Germany through the
Port of Hamburg the following year, on 11 April 1888. With the assistance of
Lukasz Bielecki in Poland, I learned that Wyganowo was a manor in the town
of Osno (Pol.) / Oshnau (Ger.), Posen, which is just a few km. southeast of
Lopienno.
I have transcribed numerous church records for Zobel families from the
church in Strelno, and I'm still in the process of transcribe more.
Hope some relatives recognize the information.
Best regards to all,
John W. Ladwig
