JOHN ZOBEL
John Zobel Accidentally Killed - Grief Fatal to His Wife
Fred J. Zobel for many years a resident of Washington, D.C., but who during
the last few years has been spending the warmer months in Salisbury, and the
colder ones in St. Petersburg, Fla., recently received some very distressing
news at his Florida address. After he recovered to some extent from the great
shock it gave him, he wrote the details of it to relatives of his late wife, who
before her marriage was Miss Jennie Hasselbarth. The details of the sad and
shocking news are as follows:
John Zobel, a younger and much loved brother, had work in Washington, where he
and his family resided. While on his way to work on a Sunday morning a little
over a month ago, he was struck by a street car, and fatally injured. He was
not instantly killed, but was still living, though unconscious when picked up
and taken to a hospital as soon as possible. However, he died in the hospital
soon after he was brought there, without becoming conscious.
There being nothing on his person by which he could be identified, and the
hospital authorities not knowing whom to notify about his death, had the body
removed to a morgue.
When he failed to come home at the time he was expected, his son began to
inquire about him, and finally went to the morgue some time during the evening,
and there found the dead body of his father and learned of the accident which
caused his death.
When Mrs. Zobel learned of her husband's fatal accident, she was so shocked
and overcome by grief that she had to be put to bed, and about a week later her
great grief proved fatal to her. Mr. and Mrs. Zobel are survived by two
children, Frederick and Helen.
