Old pre-internet information includes a ten page mimeo on John Zinn (b. 1763, Berks co.
PA) and descendents prepared by Roy Snedegar of Phoenix Arizona.
In regard to Mary Ann Zinn, Snedegar refers to the following which he received from
Eugene E. Luckey, of Burns, Oregon.
“The only proof that I have that Mary Ann Zinn (b. 30 May 1791, Bourbon Co., Ky) was the
granddaughter of George Zumwalt was that in his will he said ‘I leave a $20 womans saddle
to his granddaughter, Mary Leasure.’ The only Mary Leasure in the area was the wife of
John Leasure whom she had married, 20 May 1808 (The Zumwalt family was in Bourbon County
in 1779).”
A summary of George Zumwalt’s will can be found on the Grant Co KY genforum site in a
section devoted to Harrison Co wills, where his will was in fact probated in Feb. 1816
(Vol I, p. 310).
John Zinn’s pension application can be found on Bob Francis’
www.shahan.com in the
section on Ruddle’s Station. This site contains much good Bourbon Co information,
including a record of Bourbon County marriages from its inception in 1786 to 1800, as
taken from the Register of the State Historical Society. The site also contains the info
on tax lists.
A copy of John Zinn’s will was passed on down to me by my late Aunt, Ora Lowe Struve, of
Williamstown, KY.
I may also have gotten some information from the Zumwalt genforum site.
I hope you find this helpful.
Obviously there is much more to be learned, and if there is anything more that I can help
you with please let me know.
