Yes, the William Stephen and Sarah Williams Ragland line is the correct one. Only three
of their children came to Mississippi: Frederick W. Ragland, John A. Ragland and Martha
Ragland Zinn.
Frederick's estate was settled in Pontotoc Co., and all his children were named.
I have seen quite a few family trees for John A. Ragland and Martha Maxey; all of them
list the oldest three daughters, but none identify the two youngest daughters on the 1830
census.
I didn't tackle the Ragland line for years because there are so many branches, many of
which ended up in Missisippi, and it seemed overwhelming. Once I started looking at the
records, though, our Ragland line was not so hard to track since they came through
Georgia, and William Stephen and Sarah Williams Ragland were obliging enough to leave
wills naming their children.
There are also several intermarriages between the Zinn and Ragland lines. Martha
Maxey's sister Mary (Polly) Maxey married Bailey Freemen and was the mother of Simeon
Freeman, husband of Harriet Selina Zinn. John A. & Mary Maxey Ragland's daughter
Mary Jane married Howell Rayburn. Howell & Mary Jane's son, Noah Rayburn, married
Sarah Agnes Gregory, d/o Sarah Elizabeth Zinn and Brown Gregory.
