I have most of the Zimmermann data from the Wattenwil parish books, about 60 pages of
notes. I don't recognize yours as one that came over, but there were probably others
I do not know about. I keep learning of more that came over. If you know a birth date on
your Johanne Christian I will check my information on Zimmerman at Wattenwil for it.
Zimmermann is a fairly common name and held citizenship at a lot of locations in
Switzerland. I don't recognize the name Doehring from around the area south of Bern
where all my Swiss lines were. Have you checked FAMIELENNAMENBUCH DER SCHWEIZ to see
where the held citizenship? It seems like it would be in less communities than Zimmerman
and easier to pinpoint areas to look at.

I saw the line " I know of about a dozen different Zimmermann men with their families
that went from Wattenwil to America over the next 50 years" and thought I'd ask
if you had mine. I'm looking for Reverend Johanne Christian Zimmermann. He and my ggg
grandfather KF Doehring were brother-in-laws and came over together to service the
Evangelical Germans here in the midwest. They studied together in Basel, but I don't
know if that is where the Zimmermanns were from. They are Swiss however. Just a stab in
the dark, but one can hope.
Thanks,
Chris Doehring

Are you sure your Mathias Zimmermann was from Wattenwil or are you
just asking? Your response to Zimmerman at Wattenwil is unclear, since you did not
specifically state your Mathias was born there. There was a Heinrich Zimmenmann born 1673
at Wattenwil that m. Salome Rufener of Blumenstein. They had two children born Wattenwil
before moving to Germantown, PA by ca. 1707, and then to Pequea, Lancaster Co., PA by ca.
1719. They went by Carpenter. Could your Mathias be a descendant of Heinrich? I
don't see anything in my records of a Mathias born Wattenwil ca. 1750.
My line is Johannes (John) Zimmermann b. 7 May 1802, son of Christian Zimmermann and
Susanna Saegessemann. He married Elisabeth Wenger (b. 22 Dec. 1798) daughter of Christian
Wenger and Christina Haenni of Forst. They arrived in NY in 1832 and settled in
Tuscarawas Co., OH.
