Johann Jacob Timmerman (Zimmerman), born about 1690 in Germany, died 1739 in Montgomery
County, NEW YORK, is the immigrant ancestor of the Zimmerman-Timmerman family of the
Mowhaw Valley (New York). Extensive research on this family has been done, and much of it
is published in book sponsored by the Snell-Zimmerman-Timmerman Family Reunion, Inc. The
Reunion now has endorsed a project to develop a pedigree-based computerized file of the
18th century Snell-Zimmerman-Timmerman families and their descendants. Volunteers are
needed to work on this project.
The file will consist initially of data to be extracted from Reunion publications such as
The Eighteenth Century Zimmerman Family and The Eighteenth Century Snell Family, both by
David K. Martin, and Descendants of Lt. Henry Timmerman, by Carolyn Sidenius. Other
sources will be added, with permission of the authors, when volunteers are available.
Each record will cite the publication from which the data was extracted. At a later date,
individuals will be invited to submit their own links to Snell-Zimmerman-Timmerman
ancestors if that information is not already in one of the extracted publications.
When the file is completed, it will be made available to interested individuals in GEDCOM
format. The time required to develop this file will depend on the number of volunteers.
Criteria for volunteers. No research experience is necessary. The only requirements
are: (1) a computer capable of running a GEDCOM compatible software program; (2)
possession of one of the target publications; and (3) a dedication to careful, quality
work. Typing speed is not important. Volunteers will work at home, at their own pace.
Further instructions will be provided to interested persons.
