Susan,
I have information on a Benard ZIMMERMAN who married Salome. Benard was born
in PA 1740 and died in Wilkes County, GA 1822. There children were Philip born
in PA 1760, (Philip also served in Rev War as a drummer boy) Simon, Elizabeth
and John. I have no information on any of the children other than Philip.
Philip is in my line, he married Elizabeth HAMMONDS and there son Felix
married Mary Polly TOWNSEND and there daughter Susan Elizabeth married James
August Granberry DUDLEY and that is where my line leaves the ZIMMERMAN
surname. I have some old papers of Benard's, will for one thing. But I have
had no luck in tracing Benard parents are being able to get anything on his
wife Salome. I have been in touch with a lady whose mother joined the DAR
using Benard, but haven't got any information from her as of yet. You have his
given name spelled with "a" and I have it with "e", but feel pretty
sure we
are talking about the same gentleman. I have cut and pasted below the notes
from my genealogy data base that I have on Benard.
** copied from a letter from Sarah HEDGECOUGH to Aunt Grace DUDLEY THURMAN,
see Aunt Graces home page for scanned copies.
Benard ZIMMERMAN served in helping establish American Independence, Lancaster,
Penn. He served under COL Mathias Slogh's Battalion as a Captain.
Following Information obtained from Richard Welch
Benard ZIMMERMAN's will is in Wilkes County - Will Book 1819-1836
Following information obtained from Fred Wright
Information obtained from something in Wilkes County probably court records.
"1828-1830
Benard Zimmerman order to divide Negroes, Wyche Jackson, Joseph Walker, John
Hugly(?), John Shank, and John W. Cooper are order to divide Negroes of Estate
of Benard Zimmerman between his son Simon Zimmerman, his daughter Elizabeth
Guice, and his grandson William Guice"
"note" the Wyche Jackson mentioned was a Baptist Preacher in Wilkes and
Lincoln Co. There was a Rev. War Veteran named John Guice who was living in
the area and Elizabeth must have married on of his sons."
As you can see I have your Elizabeth married to a GUICE. So we are on the
right track together. I take it you are from the GUICE line?
Will be tickled to share information with you, I surely can use some help and
maybe between the two of us we can get some solid information on Benard.
Looking forward to your reply.
