Samuel Karbender (how he spelled it when he signed his name) was from
the South Mountains of current Cleveland Co., NC. He had a proven
brother named Joseph Zimmerman. Joseph signed his name in German.
Their mother was Margaret Gacklin/Gockly/Caquelin who died in Lancaster
Co., Pa. in the 1790's. There was at least one other Zimmerman child:
Salome married John Stuckey. They removed from Pa. to Ohio late in
their lives. So far I have not been able to prove the husband of
Margaret. Her first husband was a Zimmerman (I suspect Bastian
Zimmerman of the ship Pink Plaisance 1732) and second husband was the
Caquelin/ variously spelled.
Bastian Zimmerman was either a brother or first cousin of Christian
Zimmerman. We have yet to prove all these lines.
