I have just recently uncovered a Swiss relative and am new to this
list. I am searching for Johannes and Magelena (possibly Gapper or
Gaffer) Zimmermann from Schaffhausen, Switzerland. They would have been
born about 1790-1800. At least three of their children immigrated to
America. Johannes (known as John in America) C. Zimmermann born in
Trasadingen, Canton Schaffhausen, Switzerland, on August 20th 1826 was
the third of eight children. He was a minister with German Evangelical
and Reformed Church, trained at the Basel Seminary and volunteered to go
to America in 1853 to preach to the German immigrants in mid-America.
He later became a leader of the Evangelical Synod of St. Louis. His two
sisters, Magdelena b. 1824 and Ursula b. 1841 immigrated with him, as
well as Karl Frederick Doehring of Esslingen, Kingdom of Wurttemburg,
another Basel graduate, who married first Magelena, and upon her death
in 1865, Ursula.
Thank you for your assistance, in advance.
