Dear Greg,
How exciting I have lots of information..... your g grandmother and my aunt had 6 other
siblings...i have located all but one..and either know where they are buried or have
pictures of their tombstones. My father was John William Weimer he was born in flint and
attend flint high school. i am looking for his sisters real first name she went by bessie
and married earl b stone. i have found athe multiple william merchants that you mentioned.
The weimers i think came from wurttenberg....I have not found them in the 1850
census...the zimmerman john the brick king came from new york in 1850's there is quite
a lot written about him. He lived next door to his sister elizabeth who was Mrs. Merchants
mother. The mother was a zimmerman.....huge family some are still in flint....
I nerver dreamed I would find a realtive of my dad's since if he was alive he would be
well over hundred....1886-1968....he was quite old when i was born as i am from his second
marriage. Please feel free to email directly joanneweimer@yahoo.com.....It is my
understand that guncle john zimmerman built all the brick buildings in flint ....ever been
to flint they are impressive...when i first started this i did not know the
zimmerman's or the brick connection... i have read in a gennesse county history book
that my ggrandfather mrs merchant dad and john c zimmerman helped started the first
presbritain church (german) the mason union and were elders in the church.....i have the
names and dates for mrs merchant siblings ...some street addresses and some pictures of
tombstones...except the elusive 7th weimer listed on mrs. merchant's dad's death
certificate...also have her mother death certificate...only 6 were traceable in the
census...might have died before coming to america o!
r might have been female and already married in 1870.....mrs merchants sister's last
names...downing...springer(capac)...perlberg....one brother william john jr weimer died
age 26 of rhuetism...single....it appears my grandmother who married to mrs mercahnt's
other brother john william weimer...remarried after her first husband's death to her
deceased sister-inlaws husband william downing from flint since her death certifiacte
oinly appears under mrs william downing ( rachel) william downing was first married to the
youngest weimer sibling augusta(gussie) and died six years before my grandmother did they
are all buried in the same cemetary but i have not yet found the downings.....
thanks again
