Don:
You've pointed out the problem I'm having. Here is what I know: Jacob
Zimmerman b. Sept 18, 1809, in Columbiana County, d. 1877 in Convoy, (Van
Wert) Oh. His first wife was Catherine "Schnolenberger" (Schnurenburger?)
m. in Columbian Co in 1837.
According to my grandmother, (Jacob's granddaughter) he was the son of John
ZIMMERMAN and Catherine CALLAHAN, of Columbiana County. There were 11
children of this marriage, Henry, Mary, John, Lewis, Elizabeth, Christian,
David, Thomas, Catherine, Frederick and Conrad. I have not been able to find
a marriage of a John Zimmerman to a Catherine Callahan. There is a Callahan
family in Columbiana County, that intermarried w/ a Zimmerman family, but
the only Catherine Callahan I have found is a Zimmerman who married a
Callahan. Although this history was written by my grandmother, I have reason
to believe that it may be lifted from a "Biographical Sketches of Van Wert"
In that, John Zimmerman is described as being of Dutch exctraction, having
settled in Canada and then having traveled to Columbiana. I haven't been
able to track that either.
Jacob took a land patent in Van Wert County in 1837, along w/ Henry ,John,
and Thomas. (presumably, his brothers) He appears to have moved w/ his wife
by 1842.
I would love to untangle this and any help would be most appreciated.
Deb
