Brenda, if you see this, it appears you have changed your email address. The following
message bounced back to me as undeliverable:
It has been a while since you and I communicated on our common family connection. I wish
to report to you that it appears I have located a source which puts another generation on
our Family Tree.
My source indicates that Michael Zimmerman's (1769-1839) Father is Jacob Zimmerman and
he was purportedly a Hessian soldier in the Revolutionary War. He deserted the Hessian
army and went over to the American forces. He is alledged to have sworn Allegiance to
America. If you are not up on your Revolutionary War history, the Hessians were soldiers
of German and Austrian heritage that were hired by the British to fight for them in the
war. The German and Austrian aristocracy apparently used this as a source of income for
their government. The soldiers were usually impressed or drafted into the army in most
cases against their will. Jacob was born about 1740 and died in 1795 in America. He and
his wife Leah (?) had eight children, including Michael. Michael came to America in
December 1787 and married Elizabeth Schaeffer (that's the spelling on my material) on
17 February, 1792. She was also from Germany and the Daughter of John Schaeffer. They
lived for a period of time in Fre!
derick County, Maryland. That's why I could not find them in Lancaster County, PA.
Jacob Zimmerman and John Schaeffer both may have died near Creagerstown, Frederick county,
Maryland.
There are several ways you can get the same information I have. If you have access to
Ancestry.com, the expanded version with "One World Tree", the information is
there. Do a search for Jacob Zimmerman, b. 1740, died 1795. If you don't have access
to that, it appears that the information is also in a book published by the family of my
source. You can find it on the Mormon website, seach for the Author under the Library
section and look for Wallace, Jaquetta Clements. She was the Mother of my source and did
the research for her family tree back in the days when you had to pore over dusty books in
dimly lit Court House records rooms and wander around cemeteries a lot. The books she and
her family wrote may be available on microfiche, which you can order from the LDS Family
History Center nearest you. According to the information I have on your branch in my
material, Margaret Zimmerman (1793- ?) was married to (?) MisKimmons, and they only show
one child, Priscilla. Since this!
was not in their (Wallace) family line, they probably did not look to hard at this part
of the family.
When I get further information, I will be happy to share it with you. It is my fondest
wish that their book will include some of the source and references for their information.
I get uncomfortable with undocumented family information.
How has your search gone, or have you not progressed to much on the Michael Zimmerman part
of the family ??
More later.............
