Jim,
It sounds kind of confusing, but interesting. So how does one link daughter
to fathers line?

Hi Patty,
There is a test that is for women only. It seeks the female (spelling)
mitrochrondria. It will link a woman/family to one of 5 basic "original"
female
lines. I do not know too much about it.
The "Y" DNA test links sons to fathers to grandfathers. I have taken it. A
large group of R320s (ie RETTIG, REDDOCH, RETTICH, RETTICK, READDOCH,
REDDOCK...
all of these are in the Soundex code R320) are trying to link cousins
who
have one of the 85+ variations of R320 all in the US, mostly in the SE.
Some are
known to be Scotch, some Irish, some German.
Two men were linked, they are cousins of some degree even though they
each
spell their last name differently.
Two other men who spell their names alike were shown not to be closely
related. Common ancestor is 300+ generations back.
I only know enough about this to be dangerous.
