If memory serves me correctly, it means the heirs listed are minors and the
estate is overseen by the guardian of the heirs.

I have a ggg grandfather who is appointed a gaurdian in Ohio in 1823 (John
Zimmerman guardian of Eliakim Zimmerman). In the papers it is stated that
Eliakim and his siblings are "heirs at law" to the late Barnhart (possibly
Bernard) Zimmerman of Burkes or Wilkes (it given as two different counties).
Does anyone know what heirs at law means?
