My Zims have some interesting similarities but some differences to Lee's
query about William ZIMMERMAN, b. 1818 in Ohio. I have a William ZIMMERMAN b.
11 Oct 1818 in Columbiana Co., Ohio. On 27 Oct 1843 in Paris Twp, Stark Co.,
OH, he married Sophia BROWN (not KOONTZ) b. 9 Sep 1818 in Ohio. In the 1840's
they moved to Wayne Co., Illinois where they died and were buried in the
KOONTZ cemetery just south of Fairfield, IL. William's parents were John F.
ZIMMERMAN & Margaret KUNTZ. John F. was b. 1794 in Hardy Co., Virginia (now
West Virginia) - not Pennsylvania - and Margaret was b. ca 1797 in Somerset
Co., PA. I believe William & Sophia went to Illinois with John P. KOONTZ (the
spelling used in Illinois), who was Margaret's brother and William's uncle
(not Sophia's father). John P. KOONTZ was b. 24 Jun 1790 in PA and is also
buried in the KOONTZ Cemetery, which - if I remember correctly - was on his
property and named for him.
William's great grandfather may have been Johann Peter ZIMMERMAN, who arrived
on the Patience at Philadelphia in 1749. One researcher said he was on the
Friendship in 1748, but I haven't found such a record. The Peter Z's in 1835
Columbiana are from a different family, apparently unrelated.
Would like to hear from you if this appears to be the Zims you are
researching.

<< Looking for father of WILLIAM ZIMMERMAN (born 1818 Ohio.) m: Sophia Koontz
(born 1818) Ohio. Both state parents born PA. Sophia's father, John (born
1790 PA.) Sophia most likely born STARK Co., Ohio according to other
records. The name PETER ZIMMERMAN comes down the generations, so searching
Peter as possible father to William. 1835 Tax List OHIO shows 3 entries
for Peter Zimmerman; one in Richmond Co., two in Columbiana Co. >>
