Mr Zimmerman Dies - John ZIMMERMAN was born Feb 23, 1847, near Bern, Switzerland, and
christened March 14, 1847, in Bumlitz and was instructed int he Christian faith and after
two years was confirmed in the spring of 1863 and to his faith in a Savior he remained
true throughout his life when sorrow and cares came he never forgot to pray and ask for
help of his Heavenly Father. When only six years of age his mother died and when he was
sixteen years of age he left home to go to Canton to study French and as a soldier served
in the Swiss army during the years of 1868-1871 as a lieutenant in the infantry of
battalion 25.
At the age of 25 years he came to the United States where his sister, Marie, had come to
make her home, and located near Celestine, Dubois Co., Indiana. After living here for
some time he met Amelia WIRSING and was united in marriage with her. To them six children
were born, one dying in infancy.
In 1887 they sold their farm near Celestine and came to the neighborhood of Lamar and the
greater part of his life was spent in this community. Of him it can truly be said: A
better neighbor there never was, always ready to help, and to the church he remained a
faithful member, doing all he could for the upbuilding of it, and lending a hend to anyone
in need.
Mr. Zimmerman seemed in usual health and spirits until just a few days beforeand he passed
quietly away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. GREINER, at Evansville, Jan 29, 1935 at
4:30 p.m., where he and Mrs Zimmerman were visiting. Mr Zimmerman had reached the age of
87 years, 11 months and 6 days.
He leaves to mourn his passing his widow, Amelia, five children - Mrs Rosa KOSTER of
Lamar, John ZIMMERMAN of Louisville, Mrs Clara KELLER of Lamar, Mrs Anna GrEINER of
Evansville and Edward of Lamar, and twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren,
