This is a copy of a biography written about Fielding Zimmerman:
Fielding Zimmerman, son of Christian and Sarah Zimmerman, was born in
North Carolina, probably in Davie County, on 14 April, apparently
anywhere from 1825 to 1831. (1888 Harrison County, Mo., history
showed 1825, his 1901 obituary showed 1829, the 1870 U.S. Census
Record indicated 1830, and his tombstone shows 1831.)
According to a biography of Fielding Zimmerman in the 1888 History of
Harrison and Mercer Counties, MO; Fielding Zimmerman, prosperous
farmer of Harrison County, was orphaned when he was eight years old,
and from that time he supported himself, working with several
different persons in North Carolina until he was 20. At that time he
proceeded westward, loctaing in Hancock County, Indiana, for a few
months, then for a short time in Rush County, Indiana, then farmed and
worked in timber in Hendricks, Putnam, and Boone Counties, Indiana,
prior to moving his family in the Fall of 1857 to Harrison County, MO.
He had married Phoebe, daughter of Lorenzo Dow and Margaret Wright, in
Indiana. She was born in Virginia and had accompanied her parents to
Indiana when a small child and remained there until her marriage.
During the Civil War he served in the State Malitia. He was a
Democrat. He and Phoebe were members of the Methodist Church. "Mr.
Zimmerman is in ever sense of the word a self-made man. Starting in
life with comparatively no education, thrown entirely upon his own
resources, he has by long continued and persistent efforts become a
wealthy and influential citizen of the county, and is the owner of a
fine farm of 240 acres, situated in Section 16, Township 65 north,
Range 29 west. When he first located on this tract of land it was
wholly uncultivated, but he has succeeded in bringing it to its
present state of perfection."

The farm is still owned by a Zimmerman who is one of Fielding's
desendants. It was listed a few years ago as one of the farms held
continuously by the same family for at least 100 years.
