UPPER SANDUSKY: James S. Zimmerman, 91, of Fairhaven Community in Upper Sandusky, Ohio and
formerly of rural Galion, Ohio died Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Wyandot Memorial Hospital
in Upper Sandusky, Ohio following a brief illness.
Born June 14, 1922 in Crawford County, Ohio, he was the son of the late Ora M. and Ruth
(Bender) Zimmerman.
He married Miriam A. (Wise) Zimmerman on February 7, 1942 and she survives.
Jim was a graduate of Whetstone High School in 1940 and served in the U. S. Army Air Corps
with the 10th Armored Division during World War II.
He was a member of the First United Church of Christ and American Legion Scarbrough Post
243 in Galion, OH.
He enjoyed being with his family, attending their large gatherings and traveling by
train.
Jim was employed 37 years at Galion Manufacturing, Division of Dresser Industries,
retiring in 1982.
He is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Deloris and Kenneth Kocher of
Bloomville, Donna and John Patterson of Mequon, Wis., Diana and William Hurlow of Galion,
OHIO and Debra and Mike Poland of Cocoa, Fla.; one daughter-in-law, Linda Zimmerman of
Cedar Rapids, Iowa; one brother and sister-in-law, William and Mary Louise Zimmerman of
Galion; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Daniel Zimmerman; one
grandson, Michael Patterson and one great-grandson, Joshua Baker.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 20, 2013 at
Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday,
June 21 with Rev. Katherine Beckett officiating.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Galion. Military graveside services will be
conducted by the United States Army and the Galion/Crestline Veterans Military Funeral
Detail.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor's choice.
