In "The History of the Borneman Family in America: Since the First Settlers
1721-1878" by J.H. Borneman, pages 33-46, the author describes the potential
inheritance of "$80,000,000" through the Zimmerman family (which was connected
to the Borneman family by the marriage of Herman Zimmerman to Susanna Borneman). The story
is that Herman Zimmerman's uncle John in Holland left a bequest to go to the family in
the US if all John's lineal descendents died out in Holland, and that there was an
unsuccessful effort to claim the fortune in 1852.
Has anyone ever looked into this story and found any independent evidence that there is
some kernel of truth to it? I find conflicting and only bare-bones information on line on
the ancestry of Herman Zimmerman, and am only starting to look for evidence to confirm his
true ancestry and whether the inheritance story can be confirmed. So I would be most
interested if anyone has any evidence already.
Thanks for any help you can give.
Bob Moreen (a descendent of Herman Zimmerman and Susanna Borneman through their daughter
Catherine and then the Ruppert and Anthony families)
