My Great Great Grandmother was Sarah Elvira Carpenter (1867-1939) who was born and died in
Graham Co., NC. She was a daughter of William Carpenter (1830-1885) and Margaret Ann
Davis. William was a son of David Carpenter (c1806-1870s). David was a son of Jacob
Carpenter (c1779-1856) and Margaret (---) of Three Mile Creek (present day Avery Co., NC).
Jacob was a son of Mathias Carpenter (1752-1835) and Elizabeth Miller. Mathias was born a
"Zimmerman," but Anglicized his name to "Carpenter" around the time of
the Revolutionary War. His parents are unknown. He lived in Rowan, Surry and Ashe Co., NC.
I descend from Mathias two other ways: His daughter Frances Carpenter (1771-1842) married
William Davis and their granddaughter was Margaret Ann Davis mentioned above.
Mathias's daughter Margaret Carpenter (1784-1865) married Jonathan Miller and their
daughter Susanna married Jacob Davis (son of William and Frances above). They were the
parents of Margaret Ann Davis mentioned above.
