Female DNA testing is called mt-DNA, mitochonria DNA. It traces one's
female line all the way back. It is used extensively by National Geographic
in tracing the migrations of peoples. It is not as popular for genealogy as
the surname projects, the Y-DNA, because it does not trace a surname but
rather the female lines. I hope that helps.
You can learn much more about genealogy and DNA by going to the
familytreedna website and the National Geographic National Genome website.
Both have lots of information. It is a very complicated process and can be
very confusing because it employs science and statistics.
What is your lineage back to Hans Zimmerman?

By the way don't the women have some part in this DNA... They carried the
child for nine months?

Delores,
Y-DNA tests only relate to males. It traces the male DNA. So you would
need a male Timmerman/Zimmerman to get tested. Harold Twaddle was tested
and can compare his DNA with other members of the Twaddle family.
I am a direct descendant of Hans Zimmerman of the Pink Plaisance and the
author of Carpenters A Plenty, the family genealogy. How do you relate to
Hans Z of Switzerland?

Hi Robert,
I had my brother tested. His name is Harold Twaddle,my grandmother was a
Zimmerman and I was given a note many years ago by my deceased mother, that
noted our relationship to Hans Zimmerman from Bern, Switzerland who came via
Rotterdam on the Pink Plaisence(sp?) Would my brothers DNA show anything of
importance in this Zimmerman research? His FTDNA # is 184394 and password
D9AIEA. My brother is not really into genealogy... just me.
Thanks for any help.

Have you or a member of your family participated in DNA testing?
The Carpenter DNA site at
familytreedna.com has a number of Zimmermans on
it. If you have been tested or will be tested, then you can compare your
results with others on the site. It is an effective means of eliminating
lines and of determining the village of your ancestor. I suggest that you
visit the site and see how many Zimmermans have been tested and consider it
as another research option for your line.
I have been tested and we belong to the Hans Zimmerman group, Group 5, I
think. We originated in Steffisburg in the Canton of Bern, Switzerland. We
have now discovered a number of families whose origins were in that village
who moved elsewhere, Alsace, Rhine Pfalz, and Montbeliard, before coming to
America.
Good luck on your search,
Robert Carpenter

The data posted here is documented . sourced . and supported . by original
images of Germany church records. Specific members of the immigrant
families reflected in the Palatinate London listing of 1764 . recorded in
the Colony of South Carolina Council Chamber records of December, 1764 .
referenced in the Revill list of 1939 . are listed herein with other
verified ancestral members. Irresponsible posters have posted TOTALLY
inaccurate data of these families . (SEE INDIVIDUAL) brought about by
their incomplete methods of research ... and their propensity to merely
copy (based on 'gut feeling') incorrect data without doing any research
for reputable source, or verification, data. Having been notified of this
fact, their flawed data continues to remain posted and utilized. In a
nutshell, regardless of what one reads in books written decades ago, or
even recently for present day books using those 'old' books for reference,
PHILIPP and FREDERICH WILHELM ZIMMERMAN were not rel!
ated in any capacity. More importantly, my ancestor FREDERICH WILHELM
ZIMMERMAN was not the son of HANS JACOB ZIMMERMAN(N) or ANNA BARBARA
ISLIKER from Switzerland. YES, the FREDERICH ZIMMERMAN(N) referenced as
being born 3/30/1730 was from Switzerland . and died there eighteen (18)
months later on 9/14/1731 !!! Thus he could not be the FREDERICH
referenced in these flawed family posts as being the son of my ancestor.
Nor could the other FRIDERICH brother, whose d/o/b was recorded in 1733;
and d/o/d in 1753. Based on these documented findings, it is our firm
belief that my ancestor, FREDERICH WILHELM ZIMMERMAN, and family, hail
from the Rhine River valley of 'old' Germany. If you are a descendant of
these families, and wish to confirm our findings regarding your ancestors,
feel free to view the film sources we provide as reference ... and make
copies of the filmed church book pages at the same time for your files.
You may also contact us if desired. We have researched!
other members of the London Palatinate group and have located verifia
ble data on several other families as well. Unfortunately the village of
my ancestor, FREDERICH WILHELM ZIMMERMAN, who arrived in Charles Towne in
1764-65 aboard the (English) sailing ship Union, has not been located as
of this writing. Chuck & Carrol TIMMERMAN-Nevada
