HURON: Phyllis May Zimmerman, 68, of Huron, Ohio died Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at her
summer cottage.
Born June 8, 1942 in Mansfield, Ohio she was the daughter of Owen Jones and Alda (Baker)
Jones Brook.
She retired as a home economics teacher with the Mansfield City Schools. Since 1998, she
has lived in Huron, Ohio during the winter months.
Family was important to Phyllis, especially her grandchildren.
She served on the board of directors for the German Home Society, Daughters of Herman,
Horse Club Auxiliary and Walton Lake. Phyllis was very active with the Sons of Herman
where she enjoyed cooking and catering events.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Leslie Zimmerman of Huron;
grandchildren, Madison and Jack; mother, Alda Brook of Mansfield, Ohio; brothers and
sisters-in-law, Gary and Jan Jones, and Leslie and Kathy Jones, all of Mansfield; and
special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Zimmerman in 1996; father, Owen Jones;
infant son, Christopher; and stepfather, James Brook.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, August 15, 2010 at the Ontario Home of Wappner
Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Mansfield, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home conducted by Terry
Philpott.
Burial will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics.

The Order of the Sons of Hermann, also known as Hermann Sons and by its German name as Der
Orden der Hermann's Soehne or Hermannssöhne, was formed as a mutual protection society
for German immigrants in New York City on July 20, 1840.[1][2]
The order provides low-cost insurance and mutual aid and has historically promoted the
preservation of German language and traditions
