My gggm Catherine Zimmerman and her family came to upstate NY and lived in Utica (Oneida Co.) and the surrounding towns. Her parents were Mathieu ( Mitty) and Magdelena (Lanny) Zimmerman. The family emigrated from Baden. Catherine arrived about 1853 (am not sure if the family arrived together or separately). They were Moravian.
Catherine married Baltus Unsel/Balthazar Unseld about 1855. Her sister Mary married Lawrence Beck in 1857 and the Becks lived in Lyons Falls in Upstate NY. Her sister Rosa married either a Schreigler and/or a Schuyler.
My gggm also had a brother Matthew (Mathias or Mathieu) Zimmerman) who married Magdalena Fuhrman--Matthew and Magdalena had seven children-Magdalena born about 1853, Catherine born May 29, 1855, Mary born about 1857, Amelia born about 1858, Caroline born November 30, 1860 , Simon born November 03, 1861and John born December 27, 1862. One of the girls married a Gangloff in Utica (it was either Caroline or Catherine--I don't have my note available.
Some of the other surnames from our Utica history are Baker, Supple, Flint, McCoy, O'Connor, and Ryan.
Wonder if there is a connection with any of the recently posted NY Zimmerman families. Kathy
I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one searching for a Zimmerman family
in NY who can't find their line. I have a Polly Zimmerman who died in 1850
after childbrith. She was married to Peter Makeley. Polly had three sons
with him and only one lived, the last one which may have taken her life. Peter
and Polly lived in Almond, NY. Peter remarried later the same year to
Clarinda Hadsell. I have not been able to find any records of Polly or her family
anywhere. Does anyone know this family of Zimmerman's? Vicki

Hi I am looking for information on my grandfather Albert Leo Zimmerman. He lived in Kenora Ont., Canada from 1964 until he died in 1969. He has a sister Mrs Viola Sewell of Winnipeg and a brother Gordon. I know he had another son besides my father, a Robert Zimmerman I believe who once resided in South Burnaby BC. I am attempting to do my geneology so any help will be much appreciated
Thanks
Linda
