My Zimmermans' also came from that village in Switzerland. Heinrich in 1701
to the US. His sons Gabriel and Emmanuel (I am descended from both) migrated as
Carpenter across PA to OH and on to IA and KS. Thank you for posting the info.

I am in possession of an original bill of sale (official legal document) involving the sale of a parcel of land in the village of Wattenwil, Canton Bern, Switzerland dated 1870. It seems to me that it is a family heirloom and it came from somewhere in Wisconsin, a traditional place of destination for immigrants from Bern, Switzerland.
The vendor is Daniel Zimmermann of Wattenwil, Canton Bern, the buyer is Christian Krebs of Rüti bei Riggisberg, Bern, Switzerland.
If anyone relates to either of these families, please contact me.
Dear Mrs. Eckley:
Thank you for your quick reply.
Yes, I would be very interested in these records, as I have no records of H. W. Zimmerman's Parents, brothers or sisters. This looks as if it may be a stepping stone to my relatives back East.

I believe H.W. Zimmerman was my G-Grandfathers uncle. My Grandfather was
Samuel C. Beck and he and his family lived next door to the H.W.
Zimmermans in Freemont. I have Samuel's civil war files and in them
there are affidavits signed by H.W. Zimmerman and his brother Robert
Zimmerman of Illinois. Samuel mentions in a letter that Robert
Zimmerman was his uncle and I believe H.W. Zimmerman was also. If you
are interested, please let me know.

Ralph Zimmerman
1916-2004
Ralph W. Zimmerman, 87, of Cheyenne, died Jan. 9 at Life Care Center after a lengthy
illness.
He was born March 25, 1916, to Earl and Louella Zimmerman of Cheyenne. He was
raised on the family homestead along with a brother and two sisters.
After he married Laura Palmer in December 1941, he developed a family farming and
ranching partnership with his parents.
Zimmerman and his wife raised cattle, wheat and two sons north of town.
Zimmerman will be remembered as a good neighbor and a cowboy that took good care
of his livestock, land and equipment.
His hobbies included fishing with close friends, playing cards on cold winter nights and
sharing many stories of community barn dances that he attended years earlier.
Zimmerman spent many hours in his shop, designing and building equipment to aid his
ranching operation. He later extended his welding and design talent to cowboy art,
exhibiting and selling at local craft shows. Many families will long enjoy his unique work.
He is survived by his wife, Laura of Cheyenne; two sons, Gerald of Thousand Oaks,
Calif., and Carl of Grand Junction, Colo.; a borther, Claude "Mike" of Redding, Calif.; two
sisters, Mrs. Harold Holmes of Cheyenne and Mrs. Ralph Faber of Montrose, Colo.; five
grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and many
close friends.
Friends may contribute to Meals on Wheels or a charity of their choice in lieu of flowers.
Note: I am of no relation, but my sympathies go out to those of you who are.
This is here as a lasting memorial for Mr. Zimmerman.

Hello:
I am seeking information on Leonard Charles Zimmerman who married Ella M. Proctor in Larimer County, Colorado 1893. I believe Leonard was born in NY in 1865. They had two daughters, Leila Augusta and Mary and moved to California.
If anyone has any information on this line, please drop me a line.
Thanks very much!

Carpenter & Zimmerman Researchers
How often have you seen the words, "Not proven as a son", or the "Only
proven son", or "Oral tradition says". We now have a genealogical tool that
can HELP in determining if we are related or not. This tool is Y-Chromosome
DNA testing. I would recommend FTDNA at www.familytreedna.com .
In addition, if you are a Carpenter or Zimmerman descendant, you can go to
www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=S82066 and receive a discount
over the regular price.
Here is an extraction from the Carpenter Cousins Y-DNA Project, administered
by John R. Carpenter, "DNA in the cell nucleus is organized into objects
called chromosomes. Humans have 46, including two that determine easch
person's sex: if these are X and X, the person is female; if X and Y, male.
The Y chromosome is passed virtually unchanged from father to son through
the generations and forms the basis for this test."
"Since the Y chromosome is inherited virtually unchanged, why are there any
differences at all? The answer is mutation. The current understanding is
that each locus can be expected to mutate about once in 500 generations on
average.
I had my DNA tests completed in November 2002. My paper trail said that I
was descended from Christian "CZ" Zimmerman/Carpenter. In November of 2003
a gentleman from North Carolina who is descended from Peter Zimmerman also
had his DNA tests conducted. Then on 18 December 2003, I received an e-mail
from the FTDNA organization that said, "YOU HAVE A MATCH!". I still haven't
touched the ground yet! The results of this DNA testing proved that
Christian "CZ" Zimmerman/Carpenter and Peter Zimmerman/Carpenter were
brothers or at least first cousins. And, also that they are descended from
Hans Zimmerman or from Hans' father. In all probability Christian and Peter
were brothers.
Now what does all this prove? 1) It proves that my Grandfather John T.
Carpenter was the son of Joseph Carpenter, whose father was Frederick
Carpenter, and he was a son of Christian "CZ" Carpenter. 2) The other
person who took the DNA test was a descendant of Peter Zimmerman, and his
matched mine almost exactly. There was a slight number change (mutation) for
the DYS 439 value, which for me, it was 11 and this other person it was 12.
Now if we had a descendant of the Jacob Zimmerman (Jacob Carpenter) and
Johannes Zimmerman (John Carpenter) who are thought to be also descendants
of Hans Zimmerman, b-1702, to also take the DNA test we could probably
prove whether or not they are brothers and also if they are sons of this
Hans Zimmerman. Since the Y-DNA is passed from father to son it would not
tell us if they are half brothers or not, just that they had the same
father.
Without stating names, I was born in 1938, the other gentleman was born in
1951. With our DNA matches alone, (6th Cousins) we have a 99.9 percent
chance of having a common ancestor. This is probably better that most vital
records that are found via normal genealogical research today. Just looking
at the dates we go from 1938 and 1951 back to 1720, 1736 and most likely to
even 1702.
If you have questions in regards to DNA testing, you can contact FTDNA at
the above Internet address or feel free to contact John R. Carpenter,
administrator and coordinator of the Carpenters Cousins Y-DNA Project at
jrcrin001(a)cox.net , or Terry L. Carpenter at diluvius(a)yahoo.com , or myself
Bobby L. Carpenter at bclompoc(a)attglobal.net if you are interested in my
25-Marker Y-DNA test results.
My only interest is to further this form of Genealogical testing and also to
see if Christian, Peter, Jacob, and Johannes were all brothers descended
from Hans or where their common ancestor came into the picture.
Thanks Bob Carpenter

Hello Clair,
I have only a few Zimmerman's on my tree. They were from Carlstadt, New Jersey.
John Zimmerman married Agnes Burke (my great aunt).
They had 3 children: John "Jack", James and Donald.
Jack married Helen (?) and they currently live in Montana. They had one child: Linda.
James married Pearl (?). They are both deceased. They had twin boys James and Lawrence, which we have lost touch with.
Donald became a priest and is also deceased.
I have no other information on John Zimmerman.
I don't see any connection to any of the names you listed.
Good luck with your search and happy new year.

Pete - Thanks for your help. And that's my problem. I am not sure of who
the parents of George are. I believe that they're Andrew Zimmerman and Ruth
Taylor. A short biography of that family is found in the History of Hardin
County, wherein it states that Andrew and Ruth Zimmerman came to Ross County
about 1800 and removed to Hardin County in 1830. In the 1850 U.S. Federal
Census of Ohio, Hardin County, Roundhead Township, I find George and wife
Sarah and Ruth Zimmerman aged 70. Andrew Zimmerman's will mentions George,
but no one else. According to the above mentioned History, Andrew and
Ruth's children were John, Andrew, Jefferson, Obadiah, Elijah D., George,
Elizabeth, Margaret, Delilah, Maria, Lavonia and Eliza Jane. I also believe
that there is another daughter named Emily E. from marriage records that I
received. I couldn't find any record of Andrew & Ruth Zimmerman in Ross
County. There were no land records in Ross County, or Hardin County,
either.
If George IS the son of Andrew Zimmerman and Ruth Taylor, I already have the
lineage back to Andreas Zimmerman in Philadelphia County, now Montgomery
County, PA from 3 other Zimmerman researchers. But I'm just not sure.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.
