Hello,
Do you know the siblings of your Andrew ZIMMERMAN? Did he have a sister
named Maria? She was b. Apr 30 1756, d. 9/21/1801 in Lancaster Co. PA,
married John/Johannes WAGGONER/WAGNER in 1782 in Lancaster Co.? We think
that she had a brother named Andreas or Andrew. Let me know if there is a
connection. Thank you!
Linda

When you get a message about a virus that suggests you find it by using
" Find ":, go ahead and find it. When it appears in the Found Box,
highlight it and check it out by looking at its " Properties ". It will
tell you if it is part of the operating system and the date it was
installed. From that you can determine if it is something to keep, or
something to dump. bob zimmerman
Hello Barney & Jeree
I would like to thank you for the HOAXES:& VIRUSES: web addresses. These
will come in handy for me in the future.
I don't get upset when I receive virus alerts. Lets face it folks 'crap'
happens and if we as Zimmerman family members can't handle the someone
caring enough to give a warning then holy smokes this world is in bad shape.
I received a nasty email from someone, because I sent a message to the group
agreeing with Jeree. Not everyone is a computer expert. I feel we are here
as family members searching out our heritage and supposedly helping each
other! It is in my opinion if you feel there is a danger, act! Sticking
your head in the sand to wait out the storm doesn't help much.
All I can say is LIFE is too Short folks and we had better start working
together as a team.
I want you all to feel welcome, valued and needed.
Now lets get back to family stuff.

Hello Jeree -
Hello Jeree -
I normally stay out of these little virus and virus-hoax discussions,
but this one seems to picking up a bit more nastiness than most. I
don't know what this "incredibly rude person" sent you -- not really
interested -- but it IS a problem when individuals pass erroneous
information.
These genealogy lists are unique in that they are composed of people
who delight in helping each other out. Due to their composition,
however, they are less likely to be computer or network experts.
On two occasions, I informed members of a mailing list of a rampant
virus, but only because it had already infected members of our list
[as I determined from the header information]. But on at least two
dozen other instances, I have had to jump in and squash hoaxes.
Yes, we all have to be careful about viruses and trojans, but these
knee-jerk reactions aren't helpful. In a couple cases, people were
instructed to remove needed system files from their machines. But
even if the hoax's payload isn't destructive, it is taking up time
and bandwidth. They are frightening these "neophytes" without good
reason. [I can go on forever about fear and control!] And, maybe
worst of all, after a number of false alerts, people will start
ignoring true warnings. [Cry-Wolf syndrome]
There are a number of websites that keep track of the various
hoaxes running around, and/or provide lists of actual viruses. If
a list member really wants to help out their fellow researcher, they
should probably check them out first.

Let's all do what we do best: let the computer experts handle the
virus messages and let the gemealogists continue to bring the dead
back to life.

I am shocked at the response I got to my defense of my fellow family
researcher. I am sorry that my note defending the person who felt they
were doing the right thing by reporting what they thought to be a virus
to the group drew such a strong response. As far as Im concerned if you
got on web yesterday, you are welcome here.
First I would like to say to the incredibly rude person who responded to
my e-mail, my friend of many years is not a virus writer, thank you very
much, never has been and do not infer such a thing, I believe its called
slander. You do not know me or them. They and the other (it is spelled
Symantec) employees I know, were never hired because they performed
felonious acts on the web. Why on earth would you suggest that someone
that has responded to an e-mail site as a family member is associated
with felons? Perhaps there are darker secrets to my familys past than I
could have ever imagined. :-) (Well I had to say something humorous)
Secondly because I know people in the field, I, will always be cautious,
and I advise others in the group to be ever vigilant. Do not think that
just because you have Virus software that you can open anything that
comes along. Someone has to discover the virus before any software
company can create a patch or a solution to the problem. Often times
they know something has damaged a computer but have to hunt for the file
that shouldn't be there. Sometimes it takes minutes or days or longer.
In the meantime the virus spreads. Even Microsoft, has gotten viruses
and had part of their system shut down. Believe me, they have virus
detection devices.
Example: http://www.cnn.com/TECH/computing/9906/11/computer.virus.02/
Thirdly where did this defensive attitude come from? Getting on the web
does not have a "driving course" before you can merge. No matter how
smart you think you are, you were a neophyte at one time too. I will
never fault anyone for wanting to learn and expand their horizons. My
grandmother is 90 and wants to get on the web, I only hope if she does,
she is not faced with such derision.
Symantec hey! I can almost see it from here.

My mother and I have the Davis family bible and in it is the following information:

M.M. Davis B; 14 May 1813 D; 29 Dec 1902
Wm W Davis B; 6 Jan 1833

Elijah G. Davis B; 9 Nov 1836
Christopher C. Davis 28 Dec 1838
Feb 1841 D: Apr 1841
George W. Davis 23 Oct 1842
Franklin Davis 10 May 1845
Mary Davis 9 Oct 1847
Also listed is Edgar A Davis son of E.G. and M.J. Davis born 5 june 1858
I know Martha lived with Elijah and his wife for a time and this is probably when she wrote this in. I am related through Christopher C. and have information on him and his family, many of the children moved to Illinois and then to Neb. Christopher and his wife are buried there and so is Martha and George. I recently visited the David City, Neb. Cemetary where they are buried and found their headstones, Martha and George W. share the same headstone, and it has Martha M. Davis inscribed instead of Maria, and on the other side( I have a picture) it has George W. son of B. and M. M. Davis. I know Frank was also in David City for a time, but didn't see where he was buried there. William W. was killed at the battle of little big horn. I hope this is a help.

I forgot to tell you James O. Allen was the tenth of eleven children born to George Allen and Sybil Tallmadge, his wife. They went from New York State to Canada in 1822. Their youngest son, Charles E. Allen and his wife Susan E. Hooper were my great great grandparents. If you are researching James O. Allen be careful not to confuse him with his cousin, James C. Allen.

Mary Zimmerman was the second wife of James O. Allen. Mary is buried in New Durham Cemetery, Oxford County, Ontario. Also buried there are her mother and father, one sister and a brother. Their headstones are inscribed Zimmerman. You have to keep a open mind when you read the old records because even the census takers sometimes could't spell. They spelled things the way they sounded that day. We have found a record of one of James marriages that lists him as the son of George and Civil Allen. His mother's name was actually Sybil. We have been to New Durham Cemetery several times and may have other information on this family that you can use. One of the Zimmerman daughters married George Avey. I think it was Margaret. I'll look it up later this evening as i'm not at home now. James O' Allen is buried with his first wife, Rachel Moore, in the Quaker Street Friends/ Old Brick Cemetery, in Norwich, Oxford County, Ontario. Hope this helps.
Delete if you disagree...end of thread.
I am withdrawing from the list until the wind dies down. Having been
with RootsWeb from almost its inception, I have had my fill of Virus
Warnings.
Anyone on any list that passes a virus, purposefully or not, should be
banned from the list until they can prove to the List Administrator that
they have a competent anti-virus program installed and most recently
updated with the latest engine and pattern files.
Harsh? Not so harsh as having to read umpteen e-mail wailings about
something that under no circumstance should have happened among
reasonable adults.
... AND, has nothing to do with genealogy!

Lets give a break to those who have not been on the web as long as some
and those of us that were overly cautious. Having rarely received these
notices, it seemed reasonable and there are those viruses that go
undetected by Symantec, I know I have a friend who was a virus hunter

detected. Better safe than sorry...

I follow this line. Allen Zimmerman is listed in most places as Simmerman. Married Elizabeth Huntsman. I have Allen d. 28 Mar 1883 in Burford Twp., Brant Co., ON. Allen;s daughter, Mary (b.1836), I have as married to "Allen". Don't know if this is first or last name.
Allen Simmerman was the son of Jacobus Simmerman and Mary Smith.Jacobus b. 25 Jan 1780, Knowlton Twp., Warren Co., New Jersey. He died 11 Aug 1849 Clinton Twp., Lincoln CO., ON.
Have much more information if this helps.

I am looking for some info aboutmy great aunt. My grandfathers siter. She is Madeline Pearson Zimmerman.
I am trying to do some research on the pearson side of the family and think maybe she might have left some info with her family. I know that she had 3 brothers Raymond Cecil,
Russell Archaball, and Roy Arthur Jewel. But I believe she also had a couple of sisters too. There parents names were
Joseph Edward Pearson and Virgina Marie Keenan. Would love to hear from someone regarding this info.
Cindy:
I have a Lloyd ZIMMERMAN, son of Philip b. 05 Dec 1892 d. 25 Jun 1964
and Mary b. 08 Aug 1894 d. 10 Jan 1983 SCHEU ZIMMERMAN, born after their
marriage on 18 Jun 1918. The way things go Philip could easily have had
a brother Lloyd as well. I have no more information on Philip's family.
Philip ZIMMERMAN was born 05 Dec 1892. Mary SCHEU 08 Aug 1894. Mary is
my great-aunt. In 1946 they lived in Rice Lake, Barron County, WI. My
grandmother, one of her sisters, was born in Rice Lake 10 Jan 1900 and
lived there until her late teens. Philip and Mary were still in Rice
Lake in the 1960's because I visited them with my grandma.
I hope this helps.
