I don't have any information on the descendents of these children. I have found some information on a couple of Henry/Heinrichs in Ohio and am close to making the connection. I hope to have that settled soon. I have information on these children as I am descended from their Aunt and Uncle who came with them from Germany. For some reason, their Aunt and Uncle don't appear to have taken guardianship of these children.
I am posting not only because I am curious as to their fate but because I feel that their descendents would have a very difficult time discovering their history. I hope I can help someone out with this posting.

This is very interesting. I have been looking for information on a Henry Zimmerman for months. He does not seem to be related at all to the brothers that emigrated to Pennsylvania in the 1700's. Do you have other information on these orphans from Germany, such as their descendents? You may contact me thru this bulletin board or directly at missiehillie(a)yahoo.com. Thanks so much! Robin

Thanks for the info, unfortunately - I can't relate Aaron Cartwright to my Cartwrights. I have Emily with James W. and Samuel in the 1860 Stoddard County Census. It is possible that Aaron was a cousin or brother, but the next reference is 1870 and 1880's census' with James W and his wife and children. The Zimmerman connection comes in the Guardianship records for 1918 or 1919 when James T. Cartwright (son of James W.) passed away. Zona Zimmerman was the guardian. In the 1920 and 1930 census the children are living with relatives, including Elise and Elizabeth Tuttle and my grandfather is listed as a nephew in the household. Any info from your History book would be appreciated.

Looking for relations of Martin V. Zimmerman born Mar 17, 1841 Carrollton, Carroll County, Ohio. In 1853 he came to Illinois. He was a teacher, and at one time was the editor of the Farmer City Journal, Dewitt County, Illinois and after his wife Anna E. Duggan died he moved to New York where he was the manager of the National Publishing Co. at 41 Chrystie Street, New York. I believe that he had two children, but in all the articles I do not find their names. Martin V. Zimmerman was the son of Jacob and Susan Easterday Zimmerman. His brother Jacob Luther Zimmerman was my great-great grandfather. Can someone out there help me!

Tina, sorry it took so long to re check my e-mail and respond. I still have to find my History of Stoddard County book to look up Cartwrights. I have very little history on Zimmermans except for Zona, his wife Mary, and their children, one of which was my mother. She died when I was 7 so I don't have much of an oral history. I did find a Cartwright marriage in the Stoddard County Marriage Records 1864-1881. Is that too far back for your querie? The book lists marriage of an Aaron Cartwright to Clementine Middleton on 5/21/1868. That's all the info it gives. When I find the other book, I'll look up the name.
cheers, Frieda
