I thought that ZIMMER ment "room", such as posted on Post Hotels and
Gusthus as:
"Frei Zimmer" or words
to that meaning.
"....room free/ or available". Don' matter. I am looking for
ZIMMERMANN's from the Minden area that have connections to the late
1700c. My 3xGreatGrandmother, Julian Catharine Zimmermann married Johann
F Grune, the gate-keeper in Minden, but I know nothing or her parents,
etc. Her dob c1792, and dod c1859. Their du Elizabeth married August
NEUMANN Apr 17 , 1843 (dob c1819, dod c1880). (August dob c1813, dod
unk).
Is their any Mindeners out in wen-land?
Hello,
I'm researching my STAMPER roots and was given the name Villette(?) STAMPER

Madison County, Illinois. Thanks for any help.

Hello!
Help!!!!!! I've come to a dead end. I am searching Zimmermans from
Wayne Co. Ohio. This is the low down. If anyone has any connections,
feel free to E-Mail.
Ezekiel B. Zimmerman b 1808 PA m. Rebecca Ann MccClellan August 10,
1843 Wayne Co. OH (IGI)
Ezekiel Zimmerman (son of Rebecca and Ezekiel) b. 1848 Marshallville, OH
m. Francis B. Hess d. September 1935
Daniel Eaarl Zimmerman (son of Ezekiel and Francis) b. Dec 4, 1890
Marshallville, OH m. Alta Bearnice Kitchen October 15, 1921
d. September 20, 1958 Maple Grove, Marshallville
I can't seem to get past the eldest Ezekiel or fill in the blanks. Any
connections would be appreciated. Am willing to share what information
I have on the Zimmermans.
Below, I notice the name Christian Zimmerman who married in 1768. On board
the ship "Patiece" that came to Philadelphia in 1749 was a Christian
Zimmerman. This could be the same man by the dates shown. There were 3
Zimmermans on that ship. My GGGG Grandfather Johan Jost Zimmerman and
family, Christian Zimmerman, and Johan Peter Zimmerman. We don't know if the
Zimmermans on that ship were related. Can there be a connection among them?
Johan Jost was from Trupbach (near Siegen) Westphalia, Germany.
It is known that Zimmermans from Siegen, Germany immigrated to the Germanna
Colonies in Virginia.

I lived in the Rheinlanfd-Pfalz area of SW Germany while serving at Ramstein
Air Base. I'm familiar with those towns. They are very close to the French
border. The largest city is Saarbrucken. Volklingen is just west of the city
and is located on the east bank of the Saar River. Neunkirchen is northeast
of the city and Ottweiler is just north of Neunkirchen. Rohrbach is south of
Neunkirchen. Rech is NW of Saarbrucken on the west bank of the Saar River.
There is no Rohrbacher or Recht in Germany. Koelpin is indeed near Poland.
It probably was in Poland at the time of those ancestors. It is about 60 km
west of the border, situated in Brandenburg SE of Berlin.
My GGGG Grandfather, Johann Jost Zimmerman, came to Philadelphia in 1754
from Siegen, Germany. One of his sons, David was born in PA and moved to
Ohio. One of David's sons was Adam born 15 cMay 1819. We have no more
information on Adam than that fact.

Hi folks
"Zimmermann" means "carpenter" in German, and as such is simply a name
similar to Taylor, Cooper, etc. (Schneider and Büttner in German --- I suppose
every culture has such names.) A person with this name could have been Jewish,
but probably was not.
Best wishes,
Alan Leighton
Mike;
I do not know. Zimmerman is such a popular name; like SMITH & Jones.
My Zimmermans were first (1880's in Mt. Pleasant, Westmoreland Co., PA,
then to Arkron, Ohio.
Even the Zimmerman line in Westmoreland Co is not connected to my
Zimmermans. As I recall, they were also of Mt. Pleasant. Going into the
Westmoreland Co site is where I THINK I found their genealogy. Can't
remember exactly since it was not my line I did not copy.

My 3xgreat grandmother was Julian Catharine ZIMMERMANN b c1792 d c1859
was married to a Johann GRUNE, the Thorkontolleur Simeonstor
(gate-keeper) in Minden Prussia. Do you think that there may be a
connect. I am trying to go on back in time, but ran into some
road-blocks.

Richard;
Seems our Zimmerman lines are from the same general area. I had a letter
from a gentleman who said my Koelpin is near Poland about 60km west of
the border, situated in Brandenburg SE of Berlin.
My Christian Zimmerman d. 1809 Rohrbacher (?)
His wife d. 1811 Koelpin
I only have one child listed from them and that is Johann Gottlieb b.
1789 Koelpin and m. 1838 Volklingen (near Saarbruchen). JG's son was
August Ludwig m. 1871 Lutgendortmund, Westphalen and came US 1881-84 to
PA & Ohio.
As far as I know this line of Zimmermann was not Jewish. I think some of
the records I have seen would have said so.

Donald, hello again,
My Zimmermann (grandson of Christian) married Lutgendortmund, Westphalen
in 1871 coming to PA and Ohio in about 1882-84.
Christian Zimmermann d.1809 in Rohrbacher. His wife d. 1811 Koelpin. I
do not know the earliest date the family was in Saarbruchen area.
I think Siegen is not far from Dortmund.

Donald,
Thank you for the information. I am happy to know that KOELPIN/KIELPIN
is in Poland like the Mormon library said. The book I found this
Zimmerman info in said "near" Recht so I assumed Recht was a larger
town, but that name could also have been changed; however, the Mormon
librarian could not find RECHT in the book where she found Koelpin
(German) to Kielpin(Polish). Seems strange these people would go from
near Berlin in Poland down-over to Sarbrucken and then up to Westfalen.
That had to be a long walk with a bunch of kids. Were those the GOOD
OLE DAYS?
This past April we were in Volklingen and area, but only to see what the
area was like. We had to get into Thuringen then back to Amsterdam for
our flight to England. The large map of Germany we bought over there
does not have RECH nor does it have Koelpin in Brandenburg near Berlin.
It does have most of the other places Zimmerman and wives families
lived near Saarbrucken.
We wanted to get to Pottsdam, but hosts in Germany said not to go
because there was too much construction.
Zimmerman is like Smith & Brown.
Thank you again for your information and good luck with your research
and Happy Holidays,
Jean W.

A David Zimmerman (with Henry Shultz) bought land 22 Mar 1816 in S6 T16 R 6 of
Stark county, Ohio, now part of Brown township, Carroll county. My GG
grandparents John F. & Margaret Zimmerman lived a few miles away in Osnaburg
township, Stark county during the 1830s and 1840s. Don't know if there was
any connection between these families.

One researcher claims the grandfather of my John F. Zimmerman was John Peter
Zimmerman. I haven't verified that claim and I have no information on him.
It is quite likely that he landed at Philadelphia. John F. Zim was Lutheran.
He and his siblings were born in Hardy county, (West) Virginia.
By the way, Don, terrific name!

Jean Wall wrote that a line of ZIMMERMANNS from Koelpin/Kielpin which she
thought was near Poland.
Well I have a line of ZIMMERMANNS from the village of Klockow which near
Prenzlau in Province of Brandenburg.
I know that Freiderich and Albertine Zimmermann came to America on April
15,1874 with five children, of which one was my gr granfather I do not know
what happen to the other four children as of yet. I also know that his
brother Charley Zimmermann and wife Amelia with five children in 1892. If
anyone has information on this ZIMMERMANN line I would greatly appreciate
it.
Also to settle a discussion between brothers. My older brother insists that
the ZIMMERMANN name is Jewish. I personally don't think so.

Searching ZIMMERMANNS from Kankakee, IL and Bertha, MN
I am searching for a Berta (or Bertha) Zimmerman (or
Zimmermann) who was born either in Germany, the former Austria-Hungary
or the former Czechoslovakia, and who emigrated to this country (I don't
know to what city or state) from Munich, Germany in 1952, at the age of
33 (she was born on 10-19-19). There is, of course, a good chance that
she married, so that her name would not now be Zimmerman - if she is
still alive.
Any leads or suggestions?
Rob & others who wrote about Switz. ZIMMERMANN's.
I do not know where in Germany the HANNAPPEL family came. Zimmerman
married Hannappel in PA. USA.
Zimmerman m. GERHARD(t) in Westfalen came to US in 1882-84.
My Zimmerman's were in Koelpin/Kielpin, Germany(some say is now Poland)
in late 1700's to v.early 1800's. Recht & Rohrbacher were mentioned. I
do not know where these villages are.
I next have them in Volklingen, (near Saarland)Rhineland. Volklingen has
a nice book of genealogy in the Salt Lake City Mormon library. This book
is where I got my info on Koelpin, Rohrbacher etc. Had nice genealogy of
my Zimmerman family which I was able to follow up to Westfalen then to
US in 1882-84.
I know nothing about my Zimmerman's being from Switzerland. However,
they may well have been--or some of the wives: Hubig, Morgard, Zuhlsdorf
and others.
Names: Christian Zimmerman d. 1809 Rohrbacher(Germany/Poland?)
m. Eva Zuhlsdorf.
Johann Gottlieb Zimmerman(son of Christian) b. 1789 Koelpin m. 1838
Volklingen to Catherine Maria HUBIG who was b. 1811 Neunkirchen near
Ottweiler, Germany.
Wish I knew where these villages are located: Germany or Poland. Seems a
long way to walk from what is now Poland to Volklingen in Rheinland near
Saarland. I think the people working German records at the Mormon
library may have been incorrect about now Poland, but I did see them get
it from a dictionary-like book.

I have many Zimmermans from Baden, Switzerland (right on the Switz/Germ
border). Do not presently have the people you list, though it was a very
small town. Perhaps we could compare a bit more.

I am not a genealogist but an ornithological researcher trying to locate
information about a FJ Zimmermann who was a bird collector in Milwaukee,
Wisconsin before 1900; he has made quite a few valuable contributions to
Wisconsin ornithology, but left no records, papers or diaries- all of
which were commonly kept by such individuals engaged in such activities
at that time. Any small help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I show an August Adam/Adam August Zimmerman b.1872 in Germany. Came to
Mt. Pleasant, Westmoreland Co., PA.,for only a few years, to Akron (at
one time some of the family lived in Cleveland, but I do not know when
or for how long). Aug.Adam/Adam Aug. was the oldest of 5 known children.
The father was August Ludwig Zimmerman born in Germany.
Did your family live Mt. Pleasant, PA.?
