The railroads claimed another victim when August Ziemer, 127 Fourth Avenue died
about 8 o'clock Friday morning at St. Luke's hospital in Chicago, as the result of
injuries sustained at Matteson last Thurday. The remains were brought to Kankake,
Saturday night and taken to the home of his father on Fourth avenue where funeral services
were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Schroder, pastor of St. Paul's German
Lutheran Church officiated, interment was made in Mound Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Ziemer who was employed on Illinois Central railroad as section foreman at
Matteson, was with his gang of men Thursday morning and was riding down the track on a
hand car, when in some unknown mnner he was thrown off the car and it passed over his
body, causing severe injuries. He was taken immediately to the hospital, where he died the
following morning.
Mr Ziemer was born in Germany in 1871 and came to America with his parents in
1887, locating at Kankakee, where he obtained a position as section foreman with the
Illinoos Central. Besides his aged father and mother, he is survived by the following
brothers and sisters, all residing in Kankakee, Carl, Albert, Herman, William and Bertha
Ziemer.
