Hello, I became involved with Ruthenian emigration while researching my aunt's
lineage, Konowalczyk, of the Bridesburg area of Philadelphia. There are many people with
these Austro-Hungarian Empire names in that general area. I grew up in the 1950's
going to school in that area with other children with these surnames (I know how they
pronounced their surnames from that experience). I suggest you read the US Census
starting in 1920 for the names you seek, keeping in mind that the Census taker often
mangled the names. I had to read the entire Bridesburg/Port Richmond census to find my
family! You might also look at any data related to St. Anne's on Lehigh Avenue, and
the RC churches on Allegheny Avenue, if it's available. Good hunting for your
ancestors. Donna
