Hello, all -
I am working on the Zielinski families of Helenków (Геленки; Helenky), which not only
appear to be interrelated, but related to various others, including Laskowski, Gramiak,
Stoklosa (various spellings), Nowak, Miziorko, Nastozyn (not yet found, but probable), and
others from the very immediate area...many from the very village.
Not too far away is the village of Olesin (Олесине; Olesyne, formerly seen as Olesnia),
from whence my Sliwka relatives evidently came. It is near Ceniów (now seen as Ценів and
Tseniv).
The Stećków clan seems somewhat connected to Kozowa, proper, as what appears to be the
marriage of my great-great-grandparents (Jan Zielinski and Catherine Stećków) shows up
there, as well as a number of other Stećków and Zielinski marriages.
I am working my way through both the Greek Orthodox AND Roman Catholic parish records for
Kozowa, Budylow, and Ceniów, whose parishes (between them) cover both Helenków and Olesin
(and, of course, Kozowa).
It isn't easy, but the Roman Catholic indices did find my family, including known,
purported, and n-e-w siblings all registered in Helenków. Also listed are some of their
known cousins!
I strongly suspect the Sliwkas, who were Ukrainian, to be Greek Catholic, but have ordered
both parish records, just to be safe...
Much of my own family, extended and immediate, ended up in St. Louis, MO...but many, many
more - and even more extended - went from Helenków to Philadelphia. Some family members
left St. Louis for Philadelphia, so I strongly suspect a major Helenków enclave up
there...or, today, their descendants.
In the case of the Miziorko family, they all but disappeared! Some do show up in Philly
area death records, and I'm thinking these must be descendants of the St. Louis gang
who aren't to be found after about 1913.
Just thought I'd post this and see who hooks up with whom and how. ;)
Remember which towns I am focusing on...I have NO info on other towns.
Have a nice day! Below is a part of the list I am compiling, based only on INDICES, NOT
on actual records (maybe that will come down the road)...dates for the tykes are purported
birthdates, though I often wonder if some of them aren't christenings.
