Holy Cross was a good suggestion for a Polish Catholic Church. I went there to check for
my great-grandparents marriage records, but the church opened in 1913 and my
great-grandparents were married around 1901-1903. They pointed me to St. Stanislaus a
couple of blocks away, but they did not have the records for my great-grandparents either.
Does anyone have any idea where I could get my hands on a list of churches that were open
at that time? Or maybe a suggestion of which churches to look into? I know they also lived
in Bayside, but I had been told they were married in Maspeth.
I have also been searching the records at City Hall, and have not turned up anything yet.
Strangely enough, I've checked through over half of the Queens marriage records for
1902, and have not found ONE Polish marriage! I found Germans, Irish, some Swedes, and
some other groups getting married, but no Polish couples yet. Maybe this is some sort of
anomaly because I did not finish checking the entire year yet? Or was there some issue
with Polish couples legally registering their marriage records in NYC at this time?...
Regardless I will continue my hunt at City Hall.
