I am looking for information on my great-grandparents. They immigrated to the United
States, landing in Chicago, IL, around 1900 +/- 3 years. They were originally from
Krakow, Poland. I believe my great-grandmother was adopted and am not sure if Plewankowa
is her adopted maiden name or her maiden name from her birth parents.
They were Polish (National) Catholic. I know nothing about where they came from in
Poland, specifically, and am looking for information regarding their parents and
grandparents and any other family ties in Poland. Their names were:
Marianna Plewankowa, dob 07/17/1875, dod 07/14/1974
aka "Mary Zielinski"
Wojceich Zielinski, dob 05/15/1872, dod 10/16/1955
aka "George Zielinski"
They both died in Schenectady, NY, United States.
They had six children, all of whom are now deceased:
1. Frank Zielinski (I believe he is the only child born in Poland), dob 12/02/1900
2. Flora Zielinski Rice, (my paternal grandmother) dob 09/24/1904 (though she admitted to
me about lying about this date -- I believe the real date was in November of 1904. She
fudged the date in order to marry my grandfather on 09/24/1904, making that her birthday,
and that's the date we always celebrated.), aka baptism name - "Valeria Salomea
Zielinski". She was baptized in Chicago, IL, at the Para. Sw. Krzyza (Holy Cross
Parish), which was on 32nd and Auborn in Chicago, but was torn down.
3. Anna Zielinski Morgan, dob 09/07/1906
4. William Zielinski, aka "Bill Hawley", dob unknown, year believed to be 1910
5. Victoria Zielinski Samuels aka "Vicky", dob 07/27/1914
6. Christina Zielinski Coons Cernik aka "Tisha", dob unknown, year believed to
be 1917
Any information you may have about any of the above-mentioned people and/or guidance about
how to obtain birth, death, and/or marriage certificates from Poland would be most
appreciated. Thanks!
