Hello again!
I have had a couple of replies concerning Frederick Ziegler and his son David Ziegler.
The following are names of children of Frederick & his wife Elizabeth Bear Ziegler:
Adam Ziegler, b. abt 1813 (Adam is a guess); David Ziegler, b. 7 Nov 1814 (my ancestor);
Maria Ziegler, b 9 Dec 1815; Catherine Ziegler b. 8 Aug 1817; Elisabeth Ziegler b. 29 Sep
1818; Carl Ziegler b. 18 Oct 1820 (he had a son named Samuel Zielger, I believe); Rebecca
Ziegler b 4 Mar 1822; Lea Ziegler b. 8 Oct 1827.
(All but Adam & Lea were baptised in the Bobbenmyer Church in Cumberland Co.)
Adam Ziegler, David Ziegler, and Samuel (son of Carl) Ziegler were all in Rock Island
County Illinois after 1850. Adam's wife's name was Lydia Reed (am not sure that
they were married in PA, but most likely were). There was also a John Ziegler in Rock
Island County, but I can't find anything that makes me believe that John was related
to the other three.
The reason that I have for including Adam Ziegler in this family is because I found his
name in confirmation list of Bobbenmyer Church in Cumberland County. They lived in
Newville area. Then there were references in the Rock Island newspapers to my Ziegler
family visiting with cousins, who could only be children of Adam Ziegler. Adam Ziegler and
his wife, Lydia, had a family of twin daughters & 10 boys; 9 of them fought in the
Civil War -- the other one died young.
From what I understand, David's mother, Elizabeth Ziegler, died prior to 1850 and is
buried in Carlisle. I think his father remarried, since I found a Frederick Ziegler on the
1860 census with wife named Mary.
The name Philip Ziegler is mentioned in the Bobbenmyer church records; I do not know if
Philip Ziegler is the father of Frederick. If I could find the evidence of Philip Ziegler
and family having come from York Co. PA, I could make a possible connection.
I have found in a York County church index that a Philip Ziegler and his wife Catherine,
had a son named Frederick who was born 1788 in North Coderus Township. That date would
certainly fit for the age of Frederick of Cumberland Co. But the name Ziegler is so common
in that area, and the name Frederick also, that I have hesitated to draw conclusions.
Thanks so much for the replies, and any other help will be appreciated.
