I have noticed queries off and on concerning veterans of the war for the
in dependence of the Republic of Texas, 1836.
Our Hemphill Historical Society had annual meetings in Greenwood, SC, in
1995, Starkville, MS, in 1996 and Austin, TX, in 1997. The tour at the
Austin meeting included the Texas State Cemetery. Texas should be
saluted for their work on this project. The highway department has
converted the area into a park like atmosphere, a beautiful place to be,
dead or alive. The beautiful part that you family history researchers
will like is the visitor's center that includes a www website. Many of
the Texas notables and war veterans were already in this cemetery. Now,
when a notable war veteran's monument ends up in the middle of I-99,
they move it here.
Their web site has downloadable family history information on those
buried here and other veterans and notables. If you have ancestors
that may have been in Texas in that period check this website out at:

Send e-mail queries to:

If you don't find yours, send a query. This site is under construction
but it is still worth a try.
