FYI
I received an email from Robert Ziegler regarding the Ziegler book and the
Ziegler List. I immediately became concerned because it contained a link to
messagemate as well as the executable attachment goal1.exe. I'm glad I save
most email and reread your warnings. This is the first time I have knowingly
had a virus and after a mild panic I deleted it and went to the trash file and
deleted it out of there and ran my virus scanner which came up negative.
Since
I deleted it I don't know for sure but I received it between 8-10 PM EST
12-22-1999. Apparently it got around your 'filters'.
Stan,
I think if you check closely you'll see that it only APPEARED AS IF it came
from the ZIEGLER List. I also received one at about the same time, but it
came from a "different person." That is the nature of this virus: it
randomly selects an address from the mailbox of the infected computer,
sends itself to that address, with ANOTHER randomly selected address as the
SUPPOSED return address.
You were right to delete the "goal1.exe" file. It can't do its dirty work
as long as it hasn't been opened.
Regards!
