Cousins and Colleagues,
Last evening I sent a mind-joggling message regarding the Palindrome
Year, which I had received from a friend. After I sent it, two very
interesting things happened.
First, most of the subscribers who receive their messages through one
of the major RootsWeb Mailing List service providers did not receive
the message; for about 6 hours last evening, mail transmission was
interrupted on that main route out of RootsWeb.
Second, several of you obviously did a little mind-joggling of your
own, and came up with the fact that today's event won't be the last
one, after all, nor was that earlier one the only previous one.
Here's what we have:
A Palindrome reads the same backward and forward. For example, what
did Adam say when he met Eve? "Madam, I'm Adam."
Palindromic numbers use the same idea: they read the same backward and forward.
So, tonight at 8.02 pm we will see the following event: it will be
officially 20:02, 20/02, 2002.
My statement said that this had happened only once before, on Jan 10, 1001.
Several of you have pointed out that I must have had a head full of
naughts (actually, you were kinder than that)! because there have
been a couple of other occasions in the past, and there will be yet
one more in the future:
It also happened at 11:11, 11/11, 1111 as well as at 12:21, 12/21, 1221
(if we use the US method of placing the month before the date)
and will happen again, at 21:12, 21/12, 2112
Thanks to Scott dePass, Ken Money, Stacy Wood and others...
