Probably everybody knows that King George III obtained
the services of German auxiliary troops to crush the
American rebels, and everybody knows the outcome of
this struggle. Since that time the U.S.A. celebrates the
4th of July Independence Day. Thousands of former Hessian soldiers are celebrating
alongside, those which did not
return home, but settled among the Americans. There were
a few with the name ZIEGLER.
Ziegler, Georg, b.1741/42 Hesse-Kassel, deserted 1780,
Ziegeler, Sebastian, b.1757, H.-Kassel, discharged 1783.
Ziegeler, Wilhelm, b.1755/56, H.-Kassel Regt.v.Bose,
he settled in Washington County, VA. later known as
William ZIEGLER, he was naturalized in 1798 in
Hagerstown, renouncing his allegiance to the Prince of
Hessen. Nothing is known of Georg or Sebastian.
