Henry's full name should be Henry Adolph Ziegler. He was born on July 12, 1858. He is
the third eldest child out of 13 children. His parents names are Christian ZIEGLER and
Sophia EBERHARDT.
One of Henry's wives, if it was Rosa and Rueben's mother or not, is Bertha
Haupt.
I have looked only for the exact spelling of ZIEGLER, so far. It could be misspelled in
the census records, but as it is, I have not found Rosa Ziegler after 1895 either.
Again, look for Rosa to be living with one of her older siblings OR adopted by/living with
a sibling of Bertha Haupt. There are other Haupt references with Fayette County, Iowa.
I have Degelau relatives in my family. When my great grandfather's first wife died,
Frieda Dettmering, the son that he had with her was given up for adoption to his first
wife's uncle - Henry Dettmering. In the census, two different times in the 1900 and
1910, the last name Degelau was misspelled. This was tricky to find him.
I am now in contact with the adopted Degelau's son in Wisconsin, who is still
living:)
This also happened in my family with the Drewelow Duenow and Diekmann families. Children
were given up to sister, brother and in-laws for adoption.
So obviously, this was quite common.
