My Zieglers turn up in the 1850 census as "Siglar". If by chance some
Siglar is out there whose ancestors lived in Monroe Twp., Cumberland Co. in
1850, please contact me, we are probably cousins. And then we can solve the
mystery whether Siglar is the Martian spelling for our common ancestors.
Where else could they have come from besides Mars? (this is only the silly
musing of a frustrated genealogist, which could be the title for the book
"Brick Walls come from Mars...").

Subject: [ZIEGLER] SIEGLER vs ZIEGLER
** Would this name be the same as Ziegler?
Virginia **
There are supposedly 4 variations on the spelling of this name, SIEGLER -
SEIGLER - ZIEGLER - ZEIGLER, not to mention all the misspellings that are
found.
They may at one time have been the same name where the spelling was
changed
over the years, different names, or spellings could have been area
specific.
Have also seen a "t" as the second letter which I have been
told was the
old
German spelling.
I hope someone more knowledgeable can come up with something more
specific.
