Gottlieb/Gudlip/Godlove Mock and Anna Zieglar
Gottlieb's marriage to Anna Zieglar is the first record found of him. They married in
Reamstown, PA 22 Nov 1778. The marriage record identified Gottlieb's father as
Gottlieb, and Anna's father as Conrad Zieglar. Gottlieb is found in records in PA
until 1790. He first appears in Virginia in the personal property tax lists of Shenandoah
Co. in 1794, and continues appearing in the tax lists yearly through 1800. After 1800 it
is not known what happened to Gottlieb or Anna. This family's genealogy has been one
of the most challenging, as it has been compiled from scraps of information from dozens of
different sources. It is believed that this family lived near Columbia Furnace in
Shenandoah Co.
Gottlieb and Anna's children appear frequently in the records of the Shenandoah
Valley. These children included: George Mauck who married Elizabeth Mourer 10 Dec 1803,
Elizabeth Mauk who married Joel Berry 16 Aug 1800, Nancy Mauk who married Elijah Berry 8
Jun 1806, John Mock who married Elizabeth Helsley 28 Apr 1812, and Margaret Mauck who
married Jacob Hutchenson 10 Jun 1822. All of these marriages occurred in Shenandoah Co.,
VA. Several of these families have descendants that are in the Shenandoah Valley to this
day, in the area of Edinburg and Front Royal.
